Can cholinergic urticaria be caused due to gluten?
Hey!
Since about 12 years of age (I’m 17 right now), I’ve had a protruding tummy but still had slim figure with thin arms and legs (google Skinny Fat if you’re confused). In the past few months I’ve started working out, and I’m getting fitter and muscular day by day. However, one thing that wasn’t getting build or toned was my tummy, which still flabbed with my lower tummy falling out.
This was annoying me a lot, and after a lot of research on tummy section, along with the skinny fat syndrome, I realized that I might have a gluten tolerance problem, especially since these symptoms were matching with the symptoms of people having bloated tummy’s suffering from gluten allergy.
Celiac disease and one of the symptoms of gluten allergy matched with that of cholinergic urticaria (i.e. the skin rashes–well not many people know about cholinergic urticaria so maybe they put them in the skin rash section).
So all I wanted to know is: Are the skin bumps that I get are caused due to gluten, because I have no idea. I know that whatever I just tried to say, all this theory of mine must be way off the radar on many levels, but I’m just a confused person since my protruding tummy hasn’t gone no matter how hard I tried in these last 5 years.
I’ve just started experiencing cholingeric urticaria since the last year. Please reply to let me know.

Hello, Mohit.
Doctors still don’t know all of the reasons why people develop cholinergic urticaria. In my opinion, yes, I think food allergies/intoleraces were by far the biggest factor in my own case of cholinergic urticaria.
Before I figured out what was causing my hives, my stomach was also getting large like yours–yet I was still mostly skinny everywhere else. This was primarily due to two factors: visceral fat and food allergies/sensitivities.
If I eat the wrong foods today, my stomach will bloat up. That’s why I’m on a restricted diet, but it keeps my hives gone and I feel fantastic, so it’s worth it.
I’ve talked about my diet some here, and also in the book I wrote about cholinergic urticaria.
So in short, yes, I think food sensitivities can cause cholinergic urticaria and/or make symptoms dramatically worse. The only thing I would say to you is this: It may not be gluten alone. I’ve found out that nearly EVERYTHING causes reactions in me, aside from a few foods.
God bless,
Ben (Hivesguy)

Can you send me link to your diet information ?!

Here is an older post I wrote that contains some information about it: Cholinergic Urticaria Diet. Some of the articles on this site are slightly outdated, but I keep them here for archive purposes.

Hi,
in my case, I am sure the main cause was gluten.
I was suffering Urticaria for 25 years. Year and half ago I started gluten-free diet. After one year I am practically cured (it really took one year to clean the body). I have written a post about my story: https://www.cholinergicurticaria.net/having-cholinergic-urticaria-for-25-years-now-cured/
So: YES, gluten may be one of (probably more) causes of Urticaria. In my case it was the main one.
