Can Homeopathy Help Treat Cholinergic Urticaria Hives?
Post by: threesixmafia on June 24, 2008, 03:48:44 PM
GOOD NEWS!!!
Read out this story: It’s long, but isn’t a few minutes of your time worth getting rid of this forever?
These are all the drugs I’ve tried: atarax, prednisone (steroid), claratin, clarinex, fexofenadine with no effect and stopped taking it. i also tried super quercetin (very good for hives, apparently no effect for Cholinergic Urticaria)
I am currently on: hydoxyzine , singulair , xantac ,zrytec , doxepin.
These I’ve tried some for months some weeks, doxepin less than 2 weeks ago. I feel though they have made no difference at all to control the Cholinergic Urticaria, at max maybe 5%.
I went to this special immunolgist 2 weeks ago. His name was Tony, I will try to track him down and get his phone number for u guys. He poked me in places and then said I had a parasite living in me. There’s a place in my body that he said was my parasite spot. He made me hold up my arms spread like a eagle and told for me to push up as he pushed them down. (That little exercize caused a flare up that’s how bad my Cholinergic Urticaria is.)
Then he pushed my parasite spot and told me to hold them up as he pushed down. He did this a couple of times without telling me what for. Then he said I’m sure you have a parasite because when I push on your parasite point yo grow noticeably weaker. I thought to myself ok what BS, but when he pushed that point I indeed feel myself grow way weaker. So then I thought ok so he knows a muscle to push that can make your arms grow weaker…big deal.
Now here’s the strange part….(We were in a homeopathic store) he started selecting containers of homeopathic substances and pushing it on the parasite point and then asking me to hold my arms up. After a while and trying many things, he said he’s sure I have a parasite. Because when he held anti-parasite things to me parasite point I grew stronger. They were still in their container. All he did was press the containers on that point and I felt stronger. Say it’s placebo, say whatever. But, i was consiously out thinking this was a load of BS, but my arms felt much stronger for some of them. Most of them, had no effect, but some did. Then took a drop of blood from me, and we looked at it under a microscope.
ALL of my white blood cells were dead. All of them….it took us 3 minutes to find one single live one. It scared the crap out of me, it was like I had aids or something. And then another thing didn’t make sense cause I had only been sick once since I had Cholinergic Urticaria and extremely mild at that. I’m sure other Cholinergic Urticaria ppl can attest to the fact that they’ve barely ever been sick.
In the end I went home with Feverfew, Cat’s claw, A homeopathic anti-parasite pill form and liquid form. He also told me to take a hot water bath 20 min a day with ginger powder (handful), 1 cup off baking soda, and 1 cup of sea salt once every 4 days. (I’ve only done that bath once so far and without the baking soda)
I had tried running before to achieve sweat many times with no result. 4 days later that I was taking thes pills because I was determined to be able to walk in graduation, I decided to run again and give it a try. I ran 3 times, about 10 minutes each (I was too exausted too continue so I had to split it into 3). After the intial outbreak, by the third run there was very few hives. So then I went outside and stood in the sun (IT was 5 degrees) for 20 minutes. It prickled, but THAT WAS IT!!! I didn’t feel the needlelike pain or knive stabbing only prickles, that anyone should be able to man up and stand. I was able to sit through graduation for 1.5 hours wearing a robe under the hot sun.
Since then I now run every other day, and I’ve been able to sweat on my upper lip and pits. Only there, but my attacks have reduced by so much. I’d say I’m 70% better now. It could be just coincidence, but I say everybody here all get a parasite checkup and take Feverfew, and Cat’s Claw. Also maybe Doxepin, cause I started taking that around 6 days before I did my first run.
I am ELATED. While I’m not completely cured, this has made such a big impact on my life. I went to the BEACH the other day. I walked under the sun for a minute without pain. Oh man, I will continue to post and keep you guys updated. I wish everybody the best of luck with their fight 🙂

Well I’ve gone my whole life being very heathly, hardly ever sick. But since I’ve had Cholinergic Urticaria I’ve been ill a lot. I am also interested to know where your “parasite spot” is, could you explain in detail so I can push mine?
I was sceptical when I first read this, because it involved “alternative” medicine. I’ve thought about it more today, and figure out why I didn’t believe it. The reason is this, if you had a parasite, and it was not removed, where did it go? I’m not saying I don’t believe it, I have thought about the parasite option myself.
The problem is, you tried lots of different things at the same time, so it’s hard to identify which helped.

Thanks for sharing the post threesixmafia & congrats on your Cholinergic Urticaria calming down for graduation.
I hope that everything continues to work out well. I just hope you can keep us updated on your condition. I have read a lot of forums in the past where people have tried the whole alternative medicine thing. I have read where people have tried liver cleanses, parasite cleanse, acupuncture, herbs, and just about everything else.
Many people seem to indicate that it works at first, but then later followed up & stated that they still had it. So just please keep us updated about it.
I myself have tried a few herbs/vitamins, etc, and I have tried a lot of other things without success. But the only problem is they all seem to work at first. Even the anti-histamines seemed to work at first as well. But then I later realized that the hives were still there.
Even sweating it out. I have been trying to sweat regularly, but recently had a couple of “indoor only” days & my hives became really intense when I went outdoors on a hot day the past couple of days. So one thing is for sure, this Cholinergic Urticaria thing seems to come & go in spurts in terms of intensity. Sometimes my hives are killer, other times I just feel a prick or two.
Anyways, congrats again on graduating & thanks for the update. I hope your hives keep getting better.

The parasite spot he pushed was like below the stomach or somehing, suppposedbly only a certified doctor can do this.
I’m not completely cured yet in fact I think I may have gotten worse, but only by a bit. 2 weeks later I’d say i’m about 65% better. However I think I may have gotten worse because I haven’t been out running. It’s my fault. I hvaen’t had an attack for so long, I couldn’t bear getting another one, but I ended up getting one from playing ping pong. (More so from the pressure of about 40 people watching the match). I’ll start running again and continue to update you guys.
For the parasite, if you force it I guess it makes sense. For some people you’re able to kill the adults and what not and that’s why it goes away. But, after a while the eggs hatch again and it comes back. Perhaps that’s also why people report feeling better after a parasite cleanser. Those only kill the hatched ones not the eggs. A parasite would also better explain why anti-histamines rarely work for people. However what about all the scientific mast cells and histmaine stuff, not sure how that can be explained.

Thank you for the great follow-up threesixmafia. I am sorry that your hives have seemed to have taken a bit of a turn for the worse. It could be related to the parasite, or there may not be a parasite involved. There are several tests doctors can run (basically they can do blood tests, even look at your feces, & more) to see if there is indeed a parasite infection in addition to the other tests you had.
That is a good point about parasites having the ability to produce eggs. That is true that they can do that. Especially the sneaky ones. However, only certain ones can do that. Also, I have read articles of people having Cholinergic Urticaria, in which they were tested for all major parasites & found clean. So it could be that some cases of Cholinergic Urticaria may be linked to parasites, while others are not. Also, if the parasite is contagious, then it seems my wife would have surely had it by now. But who knows.
Billysielu also made a great point. Cholinergic Urticaria can come & go in flares in terms of intensity. So it could have been just a cycle of a low period that occured during the same time of trying the treatment.
I am trying a new diet removing milk from my diet after I just became super reactive following a high milk intake, to see if I helps. I will keep everyone updated on the home page of the site.
Thanks again for keeping us up to date on this treatment, I am sure everyone appreciates it, and let us know if anything changes & keep us up to date. Also, thanks to everyone else’s posts as well!

to me basically, i think its some kind of bacteria/ or fungi affection throughout our body :-. it was a coincidence that i was the only one who got a fungi affection and then got Cholinergic Urticaria in my family :-[. i dont think allergies cause this problem, because if it was allergies, Cholinergic Urticaria would become more commom to people and throughout the world. For the past 3 years i never understood what were these white round mark in my chest and back, from my lack of knowledge i just didn’t care. but when it got worsen and had spread throughout my back and chest, my friends were urging me to go to a dermatologist because it was scaring the crap out of them( and me). Before even going to the dermatologist, the hives came, with their prickly, needle army stinging me throughout my body very badly( in a few weeks i noticed i had Cholinergic Urticaria) . when i went to the dermotologist, he told that maybe i was affected during sitting in a chair( that as affected) after swinming in the pool or lakes. and he was right, because ive been to many lakes before, especially in minnesota( has more than 7 thousand lakes). 😮
my point is that maybe if i was treated with the fungi earlier( than not to wait for 3 years), than i would have had prevented this condition( cholinergy urticaria). so my question is “did anyone had any fungi/ or bacteria effection before have the Cholinergic Urticaria had occur?’

I didn’t have any known fungal infection. The only bacterial infection was months earlier (strep throat). As a side note, I also had this strange boil/ulcer thing that appeared on my face out of nowhere about 4 months before I first developed the Cholinergic Urticaria. Sometimes, I think maybe that was some kind of infection on my face, or even a spider bite or something which could have triggered an immune response, but I have no idea.
It could be a fungal or bacterial infection causing this, but I really can’t say for sure. Sometimes I think maybe it is some kind of build up of microscopic fungus/bacteria on our skin/sweat pores. That is interesting that you had a fungal issue with your skin just before you developed Cholinergic Urticaria.
Also, some fungi/bacteria are killed in direct sunlight, so maybe that is another reason why sun sometimes help people with Cholinergic Urticaria? But again, I am not sure what it could be causing this, and it could even be a combination of things. I try not to rule anything out. I try to keep every option on the table.

Finally I have found the name of my rotten affliction…I have Cholinergic Urticaria!!!! My story began about 5 years ago I was covered in rash…I barely had a rest from it. I sat in baths full of ice I slept in a bath of cold water in winter! I couldnt get in the bed I just go nuts. I couldnt go out anywhere I scratched and rubbed till I bled and have scars.
The doctor was useless nearly killed me with steriods and they didnt help. anyone else having bouts of massive depression …this should be added to the list of symptoms too. Its tuff and unless you actually peel off your clothes and say this is my problem no one gets it at all…the look of horror when I unveiled my legs…blood would be running down them a total nightmare. I had wet towels constantly around a limb ..arm or legs or all of them. Then I divorced the problem…lol and it disappeared just like that. Ok fast forward to now and here we go again though its not my new hubby its my job and stressing about stuff. Im trying not to and think I handling it well but what happens out break I have. I was going nuts and Im panicking because the cycle is just beginning again. So I googled and found this forum. Yah! and a name I can give it a name.
Not just say “Im hot and prickly and itchy and burning and bleeding and paining” and then cop a sort of hmmmm bit of a hypocondriac are you comment. Ok Im about natural remedies and I di try something a few years ago called Adrenotone. This is about the adrenals too. Look up Adrenal Fatigue.com very very interesting and may give you all a few clues. As soon as I go off the adrenotone I get into problems. At the moment this is a bad bout. So Ive sent for some homeopathic remedies Im going to give it ago and will let you all know how I went. right now I got to go and cool my leg down its beginning to prickle and we all know what that means. smiles to you all and as a group maybe we can get to the bottom of this stinking thing.

Thanks again for your recommendation of homeopathy. I did have to edit those links you posted, because it seems they lead to commercial sites. This forum rules prevent posting of commercial links on the site ;).
As far as homeopathy, I am very glad you found comfort from it for your hives. It seems you have a totally different type of hives, and homeopathy does virtually nothing for most individuals with Cholinergic Urticaria.
I have tried homeopathy myself, and countless others have posted about themselves trying it, and it has never cured anyone. So I do appreciate your sharing that, but I am not a big fan personally of homeopathy.
Thanks again.

No problem at all atul–it was an honest mistake. The reason I have that policy is because I have had countless spammers join just to try and push some product or make money. It just makes it easier on me if I have a “no links” policy.

Hey Motion,
This is my experience and my opinion: Homeopathy consists of unconventional medical treatment to treat diseases, which may consist of things such as: Parasite zappers, accupuncture, ‘anti-parasite’ medicine, ‘anti-candida’ medicine, vitamins, supplements, and all sorts of other things. Most of them are absolute nonsense, and people make outrageous claims such as “acaia berry drinks can cure cancer,” etc.
You have to be extremely careful when you view the homeopathy stuff, because 99% of anyone who deals with homeopathy is going to do nothing but make money from you. If you want an idea of what a homeopath doctor may tell you, read this thread on our forum:
Before you get too excited about this guy’s post, make sure to read his follow-ups, where we can see the homeopathy did nothing for his hives:
And that is the problem for most of us. Many of us have tried homeopath therapy, only to be very disappointed later by it not working at all. However, you are free to experiement and try what you want. I am just not a big fan of it personally, and I feel that 99% of homeopath doctors (while nice), are not very helpful, and are even downright scam artists sometimes.
Always remember this: If most homeopathy treatments worked, don’t you think all major hospitals would start treating people for that? Of course they would. Even if they had to charge $1,000 for a simple pill, they would still use it as a treatment. But they don’t use most homeopath treatments, simply because they do nothing.

Hey Akash,
Doctors ask for these tests to rule out other causes. 99.9% of the time, most of the people on this forum who have had blood tests and so forth–nothing conclusive ever comes back. In other words, the hives aren’t being caused by some obvious blood issue or organ failure, etc.
The biggest thing I have ever seen someone mention in a test like this is that a couple of people had slightly elevated (or lowered) thyroid hormone. Some had vitamin D deficiency, and so forth. Sometimes this treated seemed to help the hives for some, while other times correcting the problems did not totally fix the hives.
Sometimes antihistamines can help, sometime they don’t. There are many different types, so talk to your doctor about trying others if the one you are taking now isn’t helping.

Hey again,
Cold showers alone aren’t going to cure cholinergic urticaria symptoms. So let me be clear on that to avoid any confusion. What I am talking about is taking cool/cold showers in an attempt to keep the skin as moisturized as possible. In my experience, when my skin used to get really dry, it would make it much more itchy, and seemed to make my hives worse.
To keep the skin moisturized, it is generally better to take cooler showers. The reason is that hotter showers often contain higher concentration of dissolved minerals, which can irritate the skin. Also, some speculate that the heat from the water cause the oils on your skin to be washed off, thus drying the skin more.
So as a part of trying to keep the skin healthy, it is probably best to take cool, cold, or lukewarm showers as opposed to very warm or hot showers.
A shower filter can help in this regard as well, as it filters out many chemicals such as chlorine and scale.
There are some people who have suggested that they take very hot showers, and this helps them to sweat. If this is the case, then I recommend those people stick with whatever works for them.
But for me personally, cooler showers tend to help keep my skin feeling better.
You don’t have to have it ice cold all the time. I take them very cold in the summer because my house gets muggy and hot. I don’t run the central a/c, and only use a couple of portable air conditioners. This causes my house to be muggy and hotter in the summer. A cold shower feels great then.
But on very cold days, I either have to run the heater for several minutes—or I simply take a cool shower. I never turn it up above lukewarm temperature. If I don’t have time to let the bathroom heat up (like today), then I take it slightly warmer so I don’t go into shock. But never above lukewarm, and I take it as quickly as possible.
But do whatever works best for you.

Hello,
I am sorry to hear of your troubles. The only advice I can give you is this:
1. Eat a healthy diet (see my blog for my own diet experiments). If you are allergic or sensitive to anything, try eliminating it from your diet.
2. Skin care. Use lotion, shower filters, cool showers, etc. to keep skin in good shape.
3. Exercise. If possible, try to get into a habit of regular exercise. Read my blog to see how I was able to ease into it. If you experience swelling issues, or if your doctor says not to, then you may want to avoid this.
4. Antihistamines. There are other antihistamines on the market, many of which are over the counter. If the antihistamine you are using doesn’t help, then talk to your doctor about switching to a new one.
That’s pretty much all I know to tell you. I hope that helps.

Certain foods that are on the spicy level can make urticaria of all kinds worse, so I wouldn’t laugh that off. Diet is very important. Stick to an alkaline diet as much as possible. This will help the immune system and make sure that you are drinking lots of water as well. Certain antihistamines may not work for you, but there are certainly a lot out there. Just remember that these don’t cures hives, but a nutritional understanding and learning what you body needs and doesn’t want might take care of the problem more long term.
– Hope this helps.

Title: My new found Journey with Hives

Hey Guys,
I really wanted to share my story so far with Cholinergic Urticaria. I am currently 22 years old and I just got diagnosed with Cholinergic Urticaria. My first syomtopms started about a year or two ago but I would barely notice it. I would just feel some stinging feeling on my back but it would go away quickly. Never really thought too much of it but always knew it was a little strange.
Then during Halloween of 2011 I was at Willows Springs Speedway in California when I experienced my first unexpected Hives attack. I was super thirsty and decided to drink three bottles of Dr. Pepper and a hot dog with ketchup and mustard. A few minutes later, I took of my hat and started scratching my head continuesly. Soon enough my whole body broke out in Hives. The only difference between the first hives attack versus now is that this first hives attack didnt hurt, rather it was just itchy and it went to my head and face.
My friend rushed me to the ER, since it was a race day, he was excited to have a reason to take his race car and speed for a reason haha. On the way to the ER the Hives slowly went away on it own. That was my first experience with it. I went one with my life and figured it was something in the Dr. Pepper or mustard, but wasnt sure which.
In Dec of 2011 I went to China for winter break on a vocation to visit some family relatives.( Im Chinese decent) It was reaaaaaally cold there and I was never warm while I was there. A big change since I live in Southern California, from wearing a T-shirt to two layer of Lam hair stuffed jackets. While I was in China I did get the travelers stomach illness, which gave me a series of stomach problems, but it went away when I came back to the states. I came back on Jan 20th of 2012 and started my senior year of college.
A week after I came back from my vocation, I started to notice that I would get stinging feelings everytimes I got to class. I would scratch my back continuesly and learned to put water on it when it happened. Forward to two fridays ago when I started playing basketball I felt the stinging feeling everywhere where I couldnt bare it anymore. I looked at myself and I saw hives everywhere, it nearly made me faint. haha Im not a little bitc* just caught me by surprise. I went home and did some research and found out I belonged to this community! haha
When I talk to strangers I also get Hives attack, I went to see my school doctor since I dont have health insurance and she told me that I just to wait for it to go away and try taking some antihistamine medicine. Right now Im going through the phase of convincing people around me that its really what I have. Its really tough having the fear of them not believing me while im telling them.
There is no way Im waiting for 7 years for this crap to go away, so here is what I have setup so far in attempt to get rid of this:
1. From a post on EHealth I found Cleo saying that this Homeopathic remedy worked for him or her. Ribes Nigrum, Apis Mellifica, Histaminum, Voila Tricolor, and Formicum Acium.
I just bought all those cost about $47 dollars and today is the first day taking them.(Ill let you guys know how it went)
2. Today I also bought some Braggs Apple Cider vinegar Organic and with Mother from local GNC store. Drink a table spoon with cold water. (Also Ill let you guys know how it goes)
3. Hives Guy said to exercise so I went out and ran through the pain until I sweated tonight, darn that was painful.
4. Came across a post by a korean guy said that in Korea( South haha) that herbal trifoliate orange boiled in hot water that a asian doctor told him to drink has cured him. Im going to China town this weekend to see and I can get some of that stuff.
5. Last resort if all failed is to get to get some anxiety medication, I get bad anxiety alot and get stressed and worried all the time.
Thats what I have so far, its going to be a tough road. Im sooooo glad that there is a community out there like this to help not feel sooo alone. thanks for reading!!

Hey MikeC,
I’m finally getting around to replying on the forum, and just wanted to formally welcome you to the forum.
Thanks for posting your story. It was very interesting, and I can visualize what the trip to the ER must have been like.
First, I would caution you with the homeopath stuff. I know that a lot of people join forums trying to sell certain things, and they pretend to have a disease. This is why I try to maintain a very strict policy of not posting URLs or mentioning homeopath products. I do it solely because I’ve yet to see good indication that they work, and I’m quite protective of people with Cholinergic Urticaria getting scammed.
With that being said, please do post your results, and let us know how that works. Be careful taking it though, you never know what’s in that stuff these days.
Also, I recall that when my hives were the worst they’d ever been, my scalp was incredibly itchy! I would literally walk outside, and my scalp would itch so badly that I’d be scratching myself like crazy. One time, I was trying to trim the grass, and I gave up and come inside because my scalp itched so badly.
I’d strongly recommend you investigate your diet, and read how I and others have approached it. That’s where I’d put the majority of my efforts, as it does take a while, and can be a long journey, but it was well worth it for me.
I take no medications, I can sweat, exercise, etc. My hives are totally under control and they will stay that way as long as I don’t eat the foods that upset me.
Best of luck to you.
