Suggestions for General Category Sub-Topics in Forum

Hello everyone,

For a while now, I have considered adding a “general” section to the forum, but never really got around to doing it. But when AdamM suggested that I should add one, I realized that I should go ahead and do it. I always appreciate feedback on the site, and you can add that in the forum at any time (and I highly encourage you to do so if you know a way the site can be better).

So, I would like to hear what topics you may be interested in discussing. In the main Cholinergic Urticaria boards, I have them divided into, “Rules, Tell Your Hives Story, Potential Treatments, Tests You’ve Had, etc. etc. Then, people post individual threads under each main board to discuss that topic in detail.

So what are some general boards you would like to discuss with other members in the community? Health? Careers? Dating?  Hobbies? Movies? Television Shows? etc. etc. What is something you would like to share about yourself, or see if you have anything in common with other hives people?

I would love to hear your suggestions, and you can make them in the thread that has already been started in the “General Category Suggestion“ thread.

Topics We Need to Avoid

Before we do this, just let me state the obvious. We cannot talk about illegal stuff, etc. I also want to stay away from any sex/pornography related material, gambling, make money schemes,  excessive cursing, drugs, hate groups/racism, and all of the obvious bad topics.

Let’s keep a positive attitude and have an uplifting experience. Too many times I come across forums on the web where people have a really hateful, bickering, and arguing tone. It is easy to get into that mindset, and I would prefer to avoid that. People have a tendency to behave in a blunt and rude fashion on the web, whereas in person they would never dream of acting that way.

I really hate to see that, and I have always appreciated how we have been able to maintain a positive, respectful, and nice “friendly”  tone on the forum. So please let’s keep it that way, even when discussing other topics.

Also, there is a joke about the 2 topics you never discuss when meeting someone are politics and religion. The reason is obvious: People have very strong convictions about those 2 topics in most cases. This can lead to sharp disagreements, debate, and division. So I am a little reluctant to add that, but I would consider it if people really wanted to.

Anyway, let me know the categories you want to discuss over time, and I will have it up on the forum as soon as possible.

New eStore Feature on the Site by Amazon.com

I just wanted to update everyone on a new feature I have rolled out. I have now joined with Amazon.com’s associate program in offering a new Cholinergic Urticaria eStore. Basically, I have tried to include products that I feel may be of some interest or benefit to people on this forum. In fact, many of you probably use at least 1 or 2 products listed there right now.

I have done this for a few reasons:

1. I like Amazon.com–I have purchased a ton of stuff off Amazon over the past few years. I used to buy my textbooks from there almost exclusively when I was in college. I have also purchased books, electronics, supplements, and all sorts of stuff over the years. They have awesome prices on most all of their products. So, I figured most of you may like them as well due to their low prices. They also offer free shipping on most items (especially if you purchase over $25). So overall, it is a great company and great place to buy merchandise. You may even be surprised to find cheaper prices than walmart, costco, or sams on a lot of stuff.

2. It is sometimes more convenient to buy online–not only can you save money on Amazon.com, but it is often a lot more convenient getting items delivered to your front door, as opposed to going into a store. Especially in the winter, I basically avoid shopping as much as possible due to the heating in the buildings setting off my hives. My wife does most all local shopping, and I buy as much online as I can when possible. So if any of you also prefer online shopping, you may like Amazon a lot.

3. It helps support this site–All items you purchase through the store (or referred from the store) are packaged, shipped, and sold by Amazon.com or Amazon sellers (not me personally). When an order goes through the store, I generally make a small commission for the referral. The prices are the same as the amazon site, but since I “referred you,” I get a small commmission. So even though I doubt I will get rich from the little store, every small amount helps.

Keep in mind that I always intend to keep this site up and running for eternity (God willing). When I am about to die, I will either pass it to any kids I have or give it to another hives sufferer or webmaster. This site has always (and will always) have 100% free access to the forum, articles, and more. Using ads and affiliate programs does help cover any costs and time I put into this site.

What’s In the Store?

Check it out and see for yourself. Mostly, I have tried to compile a list of things I think will be most helpful in managing CU. These are things either I have personally tried, or I have seen mentioned on the forum a few times. It includes antihistamines (H1 and H2 kinds). It also includes things such as exercise equipment, shower filters, vitamins and supplements, cooling vests, lotion, and lots more stuff. Some of the stuff is pretty neat.

As I said before, you probably already use some things in the store. You may want to check it out and see if you could stand to save any money on items you purchase regularly.

You Have No Obligations At All

Also, don’t feel obligated at all to use the store if you don’t want. Some people don’t like buying merchandise online. Others may simply have a preference to buy other places. Either way, that is totally fine. The store is there for your benefit only. You have no obligation or pressure whatsoever to use it. Even if no one uses it, it will not change a single thing. I just seen it as a win/win/win scenario (you win by potentially saving money, I win by getting a small commission, and amazon wins by gaining business).

Your Privacy

Also, since Amazon.com (or its sellers) process all orders, I never get access to any of your names, addresses,  or private information. Again, this is all secured and private through Amazon.com.
