Do any of you who have (or think you have) cholinergic urticaria find that when you have a break out – whether it be just redness and/or bumps along with the itchiness – that putting something cold (like an ice pack) helps a bit?
Maybe it doesn’t stop it completely but calms it down a bit, helps with the itchiness? I’m wondering if this is the case with me, if it’s even possible that it is cholinergic urticaria.
Any input appreciated.
I’m still learning about this and trying to narrow it down to figure out if it’s what I actually have.
Thanks!

Yes, it does generally help (or stop) a hives attack if a person cools down quickly or puts something cold on their skin.

Hi Monique
Yes. Cooling down your body whether it’s with an ice pack, cold shower, cold weather etc. will usually stop symptoms immediately. From my experience with CU over the years this is how I’ve aborted an itch attack.

Hi David
I can’t seem to reply to your other post, I think that thread is closed.
The nettle root extract doesn’t seem to make a difference to me neither but I will probably finish it off seeing as I spent so much on it :/
I’m glad that the sauna is working for you, I spent 10-15 mins in the sauna at a gym and I was okay for a few hours but the next day the histamine built up again and had a bad attack whilst on a weekend away. How many hours relief do you get after using the sauna?
Any tips for weekends away or going to conferences away from home for a few days?
I really struggle when I go away, I wonder if I need to find hotels with gyms or a sauna room when i book.

Hi HRC
I noticed the other thread is closed as well. Not sure why. As long as I’m using the sauna at least 3 times a week. I’m good. I try to do Monday, Wednesday, Friday to spread it out. I might have a day where I’ll itch (minus the hives) but it won’t be as intense as when I wasn’t doing sweat therapy.
Are your attacks just as bad even though you’re sweating?
Maybe try finding a gym with a sauna or steam shower when you have to travel.

My Doctor is convinced I get hives due to my veins in my legs which I have now had stripped but doesn’t explain when I’m away on Hoilday why I get it on my arms ,it’s all connected to over heating and not being able to cool down and I have also found ice pack will stop an acctack I take really strong fexofenadine hydrochloride tablets which help a lot

Yes, putting something cold pretty much stops my outbreak or makes it go away if it is already in-deep.
