Apologies for the slightly personal question, but does anyone else with cholinergic urticaria have an issue getting close/intimate with their other half?
This has been causing me a problem for years and can affect my confidence, without going into too much detail, every time I get close to my girlfriend I breakout in hives with itchy feet and hands and the typical burning sensation on my torso.
Despite sweat therapy through exercise on the same day or using the sauna which only relieves my for 5-6 hours the breakouts return when getting hot. It is slightly difficult to explain that I need to go for a quick jog and sweat before I get close, especially on weekends away lol.
Does anyone have any suggestions to control this? Perhaps I should only book hotels with sauna rooms !? 🙁
Any advice is appreciated.
Many thanks all for this site and tips!

Hi mate, I had a similar situation when I was going through cholinergic urticaria, I’m sure hivesguy will go further into detail but I think it was due to the body heating up and that feeling of getting intimate causing different emotions! I usually did sweat therapy in the day time to overcome this, didnt always work though. Hope this helps man!

So are cured from CU now?

Hi HRC
I noticed the other thread is closed as well. Not sure why. As long as I’m using the sauna at least 3 times a week. I’m good. I try to do Monday, Wednesday, Friday to spread it out. I might have a day where I’ll itch (minus the hives) but it won’t be as intense as when I wasn’t doing sweat therapy.
Are your attacks just as bad even though you’re sweating?
Maybe try finding a gym with a sauna or steam shower when you have to travel.

Hi David
My attacks are much better after sweating but the main issue I have is that i have to keep sweating regularly. I have also joined the gym and it relieves me for 5-6 hours only and then i have to force myself to sweat again especially when i am trying to get close to my girlfriend at night. The problem is that I can’t keep going gym everyday especially when I am away from my hometown.
I am due to see an allergist privately in March who apparently treats CU, fingers crossed!!
Have you ever seen one?

I bought a sauna from Amazon. I use it everyday in the morning…closest way to living a normal life

I also bought a sauna from Amazon but returned it. It gave off a very strong smell due to all the plastic tubing because of the hot steam. I joined a local gym and use the sauna there instead.

Well, anything that heated me up could cause the problem, so this was also a problem for me

Hi Nick
Have you now overcome CU?

I very recently had a similar experience. It was the most intense hives attack I’ve had in a while, had to stop. Definitely try and be warm beforehand, I guess. It’s terrible.

You should all try experimenting with your diet! Try just eating chicken or turkey breast, green veg, strawberries bananas, blueberries, white rice for at least 6 weeks. Nothing else at all just them foods for now and only drink water, no added sauce, salt or anything. Then if you start to feel your hives aren’t as bad, try reintroducing foods to your diet like maybe eggs or something. I did this diet and it had a huge impact on my hives. First thing i reintroduced was eggs and i was fine, then i decided i wanted to introduce cheese but after 2 days of eating cheese i started to feel the itchy pin prick pain again whenever my body would overheat, still currently experimenting with my diet now. Hoping its something specific ie dairy, gluten, wheat etc. Will post again when ive narrowed it down in maybe a few weeks.
Really worth experimenting with your diet though!
