Hello all fellow cholinergic urticaria sufferers, and happy new year to all. I have been diagnosed with cholinergic urticaria by two dermatologists, but one problem I have out of many (which may or may not be part of my CU) is confusing me. My face and neck get hit the hardest with hundreds of hives at times.
Does anyone have the feeling that their skin is being shredded, that they’re losing layers of their skin? It feels horrible and it’s distressing. I can’t use cream on my skin because it makes it worse, but my skin is so dry and needs something. Washing my skin can also aggravate the problem.
I get prickling/stinging sensations too, and it gets very itchy. I have other issues also but would really appreciate any advice on this issue. I would like to say the book is very useful and a must for all sufferers. I’m on Fexofenadine up to 4 X daily and Ranitidine X twice daily.
Thanks
-Mike

Thanks for your post, Mike. Sorry to hear of your struggles with this. It usually affected me on my upper body the most. Neck, face, chest, and back were the hardest hit for me, but it would also affect my legs. It’s possible you have two separte urticaria conditions affecting you at once (or maybe rosacea?). It’s hard to say.
It sounds like you’ve already read the book (thank you), so I guess there isn’t anything further I can add. Just know that you aren’t alone in your struggles, and that there is hope that you can overcome it or at least improve it in time. Hang in there, and Happy New Year.

For me, fexofenadine did nothing. Loratadine and Cetirizine are doing the most.

No caffeine, meditation, no refined sugar, whole food plant based diet with little wheat etc. all seem to help, but also I have had CU for 40 years so maybe my response to it is just not as strong as it was long ago. However, if I recall correctly when I went mostly plant based about 6 years ago things got a lot better. Don’t give up hope, and try the diet as suggested in the book.
