Hi people,

Over the last few months i had been feeling what seemed like the symtoms for Cholinergic Urticaria. Please see my original post:

http://www.cholinergicurticaria.net/forum/index.php?topic=369.new;topicseen#new

The symptoms seemed to be get worse and worse as days went by and was becoming unbearably uncomfortable.

What would happen is when my body heated up I would get tiny red spots around my body especially my upper body and arms. These very uncomfortable as if there were a thousand pins jabbed into me. It felt like the thousands of sweat glands around my body were all blocked by dead skin cells and were unable to produce the sweat to cool the body down.

The only solution would be to cool the body down myself by either finding a cold drink or a place with extreme air conditioning. Once the body cooled it was a huge relief. The increase in body heat would be caused by simply walking to work and it would start to feel uncomfortable about 15mins into the walk. Worst times were at work when you would be just talking to someone and you blushed. This would cause a chain reaction and my face would fill with red spots. As you can imagine it was starting to effect my work quite badly. I can feel it come on and need to make a quick escape to the toilet to calm down cutting the person off in the middle of a conversation.

If you experience similar to what I do then this is what I have done to feel a HUGE amount better. Its based on the fact that once you sweat you feel better as this cools your body down. You need to think of it as stimulating your sweat glands. To do this I bought myself a used cross trainer and started using it every morning for 30mins. The key is to use a program which slowly increases your heart rate (stimulates the sweat glands), sustain this peak heart rate (get the sweat out – surprisingly this is where you feel good) and then the program brings your heart rate back down (sweating eases off but still continues).

For me, I started feeling better after two days on the cross trainer, this is how quick I felt better. After a week it was just incredible, it was like my sweat glands have kicked into gear have started working again and it feels great. No more uncomfortable situations and running off in the middle of conversations.

I hope that people give this a shot, you will know within a few days if this works for you. You could go to the gym, or even go for a jog. The key is the train the body to slowly sweat, no need to be intense, just enough to get your heart rate up. If you tried it and it doesn’t work for you then at least its good exercise Smiley so surely it is worth a shot.

Please feel free to post your experiences whether its successful or not, if you have any questions please message me and I will gladly answer them.

Excellent post, and thanks for sharing.

I think that is a great idea. I really and planning on trying to increase my workout regimines until the sweat starts to come out. I have a hard time sweating. I can usually workout for an hour without a drop.

But I agree, it is almost as if our sweat glands have forgetten how to work right, and we must "retrain" our bodies as you put it.

Great tip.

Just one caution: to those with Cholinergic Urticaria who also go into anyphalactic shock during exercise, this option may not be for them. But for the rest, sounds like a good plan if we can do it.

Exercise does work, but a speak with my consultant recently brought up the theory that Cholinergic Urticaria is more potent in winter because of the dry and cold air, which can cause problems with the skins defenses. However in humid and hotter environments, Cholinergic Urticaria can be 'worked off' with relatively little suffering over time, sometimes called 'sweating it out'.

So my search has led me to maybe accepting that Cholinergic Urticaria is a permanent thing, like the colour of our eyes. Its just finding ways around it that is the challenge.
