Hydrocortisone Compound or Anti Itch Cream for Cholinergic Urticaria Hives?

Post by: ihatehives on July 05, 2010, 06:02:41 AM

This has worked for some in the past. However, long term usage is not recommended as this causes thinning of the skin and other crazy side-effects.

I picked some up yesterday and used a VERY SMALL AMOUNT on my arms and chest areas. I didn’t get hot yesterday so couldn’t really test the difference. I showered and applied the same small amount this morning. I have just got back from the shop — walked fast and it was fairly warm — and there is only half a dozen on my left arm.

Seems like an improvement but I’ll test again when I get the opportunity.

Has anyone else tried this?

I was actually prescribed cortisone cream as a child, but it honestly had no effect on my hives at all. The doctor seems to have thought I was crazy and prescribed “something” so that she cold get me and my parents out of her hair. But since it seems to have an effect on you, you may be on to something…it’s just too bad it can cause a bunch of side effects (thinning, change in pigmentation, etc.).

Today I found out about a cream called Florasone Cardiospermum Cream.

It is cortisone free and has helped many people relieve the itch caused by Cholinergic Urticaria, eczema,

contact dermatitus, etc. It is made by a company called Boericke and Tafel.

You can google this cream and read the reviews on it. Costs about $12 a tube and is sold

at health food stores etc. and on Amazon.

About the laundry: if you wash your clothes in white vinegar (and no detergent), the vinegar

will get all the residue detergent out of your clothes (and leaves them softer). I am going to

wash my clothes in white vinegar only for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference.

I just pour about a cup of white vinegar into the cycle at the start of the wash instead of detergent.

If you want to use detergent, there are “green ones” that have no dyes, perfumes etc. Wash your

clothes in a bit of that and then add the vinegar at the start of the rinse cycle – it will also take out

any residue detergent.

Since I got all the chemicals out of my apartment (shampoos, detergents etc), and am taking the

homeopathic remedies prescribed by an experienced homeopath, I am feeling a bit better today.

Itching less intense, and does not last as long. Will keep you updated.

Title: hydrocortisone/moisturizer compound for Cholinergic Urticaria Hives?

My doctor prescribed me this pharmacy compound at a steep price of $48 a pound.

But something i’ve noticed is its actually working i’m usually not the most reactive person in the first place the only thing that brings on my hives is strenuous exercise/embarrassment.

I can actually run in the cold!

But today and yesterday I wore shirts that usually bring out my reactions and i’ve yet to suffer one.

But tomorrow is Tuesday and I get to run up and down 15 flights of stairs carrying a vacuum so we’ll see if this is truly helping. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Unfortunately it seems to have been a short term placebo effect because the cream is no longer working.

Not only am I disappointed about them not going away i’m also out $31.
