Hello,
I am a mother of twin 5 year old boys who have all the energy in the world. I love them and they keep me very busy. About a week ago one of my boys broke out in hives pretty bad and I have never experienced hives before. So I made an appointment with the pediatrician right away. They tested him for strep but the test came back negative.
He did have scarlet fever about 6 months ago and the rash from that was completely different. They told me that he just came across something that he had a reaction to. They told me to give him Claritin and later that night to give him Benadryl. I did exactly what they said and at the time I thought it worked. I kept an eye on him to see what was causing this reaction. Over the weekend he kept breaking out in hives and I noticed it was only when he was outside.
As soon as we would go back in the house they would go away. So I called the pediatrician again and they told me to try Zyrtec on Saturday and then told me to give him Pepcid AC on Sunday. I was very frustrated with this because nothing was working. Finally I called on Monday and they told me that his results came back again and he had strep. So they prescribed an very strong antibiotic.
During the week with their dad, he was told that on this medicine he could not go outside, and I believe he had broke out in hives a few times. I thought from the beginning this is not strep. Now this week is the last few days for this antibiotic and when I gave him a bath the other night he broke out in hives just as bad as before. This child is miserable so I started to do a little research on my own. I believe he might have heat hives, but I am not a doctor.
I was just curious if you might have an opinion on whether this could be heat hives or not? Has anyone gone through this with a doctor before and tried all of these medications? I am thinking about making another appointment but afraid that I will get no answers from them other than what I have been told already. Would love to get some advice on possible steps to take with this.
Thanks,
Jamie

Hi Jamie, I’m sorry to hear about your son having hives and dealing with it at a young age. I’m a 43 year old female and was diagnosed with Chronic Hives earlier this month. I was prescribed a lot of Histimines.. That didn’t exactly work. So I searched the web… Searched the web.. Then searched some more..I found there is a Histimine Diet that should be followed because there are certain foods that stimulates hives. (Google Histimine Diet-READ ENTIRE AD you’ll be surprised at the foods contributing to hives) Try really hard to follow it..There also is a cream and soap I ordered called Emuaid. It’s expensive but it works.(Check out the website) Add plenty of prayer and believe GOD will heal your son..And he will be healed. I will be praying for him. I know he is miserable and cranky. Because I was. But after 5 days I started to feel better. Today I’m free of hives. And I believe God will heal him as well.. God is a healer!!!

Hello, Jamie. I’m sorry to hear of your son’s hives reaction. It could be cholinergic urticaria, but it may be difficult to tell. Cholinergic urticaria tends to happen when the body becomes warm from either passive or active heating. If you notice the hives reaction happens every time he gets hot (indoors or outdoors), CU may be suspect.
You may want to try an allergist or dermatologist for your next appointment, as pediatricians probably wouldn’t be familiar with this disorder. There is a lot of information on this site regarding treatment, but some wouldn’t apply for your son (such as sweat therapy, etc.).
I certainly hope your find a solution soon.

Research Quinton Isotonic. It seems to be working for me.
