Okay I’d like to start by saying I’ve suffered with cholinergic urticaria for just over 5 years now and I have been researching ridiculous amounts. I AM NOT A DOCTOR and all information here is coming from personal experience or research. Please speak to a doctor before trying this. (Just to cover myself, this is healthy to do anyway)
Please take the time to read this all as I believe this is why so many “cures” stop working after a while.
I believe Cholinergic Urticaria is actually Leaky Gut Syndrome, here’s why…
First off I’d like to say you quickly learn if a website ends up trying to sell you a diet or pills or a cure then you can’t trust it, they want to make money!
Now I have quite a good knowledge of Biology and through my research have gained a very good understanding of how and why this is caused.
The first thing I realised was many people who suffered this took antibiotics at some point in their life, like me you’ll probably say “well I never have”, but if you’ve ever taken tetracycline (for spots) or used topical hormone creams for your skin then these all are antibacterial and will kill the “good” bacteria on your skin and with most in your gut.
Now this is crucial as there is a bacteria called Bacteroides thetaiotomicron (Bt) which kills yeast and limits its growth, along with many other healthy gut bacteria which prevent yeast overgrowth.
When you take these antibiotics or just naturally have poor gut health then yeast (Candida albicans) can grow without any limits to stop it. It keeps growing and produces hyphae (tubes which help the yeast gain nutrients from surroundings). These hyphae are grown into your stomach lining and can penetrate into your blood stream.
If the yeast growth becomes too severe this can cause large enough gaps for the yeast to enter your blood stream directly. What’s worse than this is when you eat gluten this also enters your blood stream and causes havoc with many organs and can cause inflammation in your skin. The yeast in bloodstream produce many toxins which happen to be identical to all of Cholinergic Urticaria symptoms, predominantly in the form of skin rashes, inflammation and feeling tired.
Why is it caused when I do exercise, eat sugar/carbs/milk???
Exercise- when you do exercise your body releases sugar into your blood stream so you have energy to maintain the exercise, this is directly the yeasts food source so they then metabolise (eat) the sugar and this causes them to release more toxins into your blood stream causing inflammation and rashes and stinging pain sensation
Happens when you eat sugar/carbs- once again this is feeding the yeast overgrowth directly so they will reproduce in your gut and this often takes a day to cause a rash of its complex sugars (milk, carbs) but can happen within hours of its sugary foods/drinks. This once again releases more yeast into your blood and increases number of holes in your gut.
So how can we treat this? Well initially the key thing to do is completely cut out simple sugars I.e. Sugary drinks, sugary foods and anything that tastes sweet this includes limiting the amount of sweet fruit you eat no more than 3 pieces a day as contain loads of sugar.
Also eat less carbohydrates I.e pasta, rice, bread etc. As yeast contain many enzymes which break these foods down into sugars which they can consume and reproduce.
Just to let you know this has helped a fair bit but I still get rashes during exercise and less severe than it used to be.
Now this is where most people stop and after they return to normal diet it comes back… surprise surprise :/
You still have very few gut bacteria to help you keep the yeast under control. So you need to repair your gut lining and this is done by eating loads of vegetables and probiotic yoghurt. This is sadly where the hard part comes in. In most yoghurts foods the amount of good bacteria in there is nothing in comparison to the yeast. It’s like throwing water on a house on fire. So many people have tried pills containing billions of yeast-fighting bacteria in them which may or may not work but I never tried them as I don’t believe spending Ā£100+ on these is worth the risk. However maintain a healthy diet and your gut will heal over time.
Once there are less holes in your gut less yeast/gluten can cause havoc in your bloodstream so less rashes. Also the bacteria once in enough numbers and of many variations they should prevent the yeast from overgrowing again.
Thanks for reading all of this and I wish you luck in all your fights with this horrible debilitating disease.
For more information I do believe this is also known as Leaky Gut Syndrome a far talked about disease.
Everything points towards my reasoning and over the years have had many other conclusions, but thy fall through or don’t quite match up but this is what worked for me and literally everything can be explained through this.
In Short: This is actually Leaky Gut Syndrome, cut out sugars, reduce carbs, eat lots of probiotic yoghurt and vegetables to heal Gut so yeast doesn’t return
Thanks,
Antony

This is very interesting. My son, aged 32, does WAAAAY better on a low sugar diet, as you described. Cutting out sugar was recommended by his chiropractor. I will let him know what you have said. It does seem to make sense. God bless.

Where i can deal with anybody here ?

Hi,
I must have posted a few threads on here over the years but I’ve been a silent contributor as of late but still try to read the posts! I also suffer with this horrible disease.
I must admit that there is truth to your post. When i was 15, i was diagnosed with IBS. I suffer from bloating and gurgling mostly. I went through an intolerance test and they found i was intolerant to gluten, milk and wheat.
Of course when i was 15 onwards, i preferred the comfort of food and put up with the discomfort. When i was 21, i experienced Cholinergic Urticiara and have so ever since. I’ve tried many elimination diets but my life is so hectic both social and work that it’s hard to stick with it. Early this year i also went into my local health store. He offered to do a complimentary eye check and without even knowing who I was, he told me i had leaky gut syndrome as part of the edging around my pupil was merging into another layer (apologies i forgot his jargon terms!).
At 24, I’m now showing signs of MS. I suffer from a lot of muscle spasms and pain. I hope to the lord that it’s not this condition but i can’t help thinking that this is yet another autoimmune condition agggrevated through leaky gut.
Our bodies are obviously telling us something. It’s just so hard in this fast paced environment to stick with a diet that is long lasting, beneficial and affordable.

This looks like spam.

You are completely right. I suffered from both CU and Hashimoto for 6 years (I am 26 now), autoimmune disseases that are caused by leaky gut. It was a difficult job and strict diet for months, including expensive probiotics and other supplements, but as soon as I managed to cure my gut, both my Hashimoto and CU were cured in three months. It was worth “leaving in hell” for 6-8 months, but I am finally cured.

This is super interesting.
When I was younger around 7/8 I had seizures which led to a doctor prescribing me with a few different antibiotics. The doctor actually ended up over prescribing me and I got more sick and now I’m allergic to all antibiotics and pain medication (penicillin, codine, etc…)
Now I don’t get hives very often but everytime I get a fever the hives always come back for several days. The symptoms are strange though. You can’t actually see any hives but if anything rubs against my skin it gets super itchy and i’ll get the needle poking sensation whenever my body temperature gets a little warmer.
This definitely sounds like a reason for why this happens.
Thank you.
