Hi all. I posted a few weeks back to say I used a food intolerance test to pinpoint my food reactions. I’m currently halfway through my elimination diet.
My partner and I have always loved to go to Bali, but I’ve always shied away from it because it’s a tropical climate and close to the equator. It’s been a major tourist destination for Australians etc, but more and more Europeans and Americans are heading there every summer so we think now is the perfect time to go before it really takes off.
It’s humid and hot all year round. But July/August are the driest months and less humid, although still quite considerably humid. I understand everyone is different in their cholinergic urticaria but do you think there’s a chance it could literally be unbearable for me over there?
It isn’t a cheap holiday, so it would be a shame to just sit in my air-conditioned hotel room and not go out. Temperature averages 26-32 degrees and humidity around 60-80%. Because the humidity is high, the heat feels hotter than 26-32.
I thought maybe it wouldn’t be too bad as I’m forcing my body to sweat every day. But doubts have started to kick in and I’m really not too sure anymore. I might have to put my Bali dream on hold.
Have you visited a hot country before with cholinergic urticaria? How have you managed?

Hi Lauren,
I visited this Thailand a few years ago which is pretty humid too , this was when my cholinergic urticaria wasn’t at its highest levels, I was also really worried but I found that the weather helped my skin, I was sweating a lot therefore it became sort of like a sweat therapy thing for me, but I was also on medication. Hope this helps !

Hi Nathan,
Thanks for getting back to me on this. This really does help – especially as it’s SE Asia. Did your skin worsen when you came back off holiday/travelling? I’ve noticed in the past when the weather has been hot, my skin becomes more sensitive to flare-ups a week or two after.

Avoid Sun burn… Directly exposing Sun triggered it badly… Always wear Hat & long sleeve Cottenham shirts !!

My experience (it was over 15 years ago now though) was, when i got used to the temperature i didn’t have any problems with my allergy! .. a bit like a holiday from the allergy 😉 However .. that was just my experience, and others may vary..
I am however going to Lanzerote in a couple of weeks time .. and my allergy (just in the last few months) has come back with a vengeance after being dormant for 15 years.. so i may pop back after to share what happened!
