I’ve had heat related hives for about one year and half, and it was a huge pain. I quit the gym because I would be so frustrated by the itching and the heat after only 15 minutes that it became pointless, and I never got much done.
I gave up and resigned myself to a fate of having cholinergic urticaria for as long as it lasted. Completely unrelated, I started a vegan diet (nothing to do with the hives – just a personal choice), and ever since, I’ve noticed I can take showers and wear more jumpers and run and whatever else without been covered in itchy red hives.
Although I do advocate being a vegan, I’m sure this wasn’t the actual solution. Rather, it was me cutting bad stuff out of my diet and just generally eating better. Either way, if you’ve lost hope with it, I strongly suggest major diet changes.
It worked for me 🙂

That’s great Joe. A few months ago I cut all grains and have had a huge improvement in my hives.

My son’s hives (he’s 32) are much better after getting rid of sugar in his diet. He is also a vegetarian, but not fully vegan. I feel people have hives and allergies now days because there are so many harmful things in our foods and in our environments to the point that our bodies just can’t handle it all. So they react, until some of those things are omitted. Our bodies can handle things, but only to a point. Then it breaks out with problems
My husband and I are also vegan, and in addition, use no oil in our cooking. It’s a much cleaner, healthier way to live, and the health benefits are tremendous. I would encourage anyone, hives or not, to educate themselves. So much good material is out there now. Documentaries like Forks Over Knives, Eating You Alive, and many others, are so helpful. And great cookbooks too. There is now a very large community of vegans, pretty much everywhere.
Congratulations, Joe, on getting some relief!!
And John, (from the first comment above), you might can just try abstaining from the grains that have gluten. Many people can eat other gluten-free grains with no problem.
Blessings on you all. I have seen my son suffer with CU, and it was terrible. You have my prayers!!
