I have suffered with Chronic Urticaria for 40 years and have tried all medications and creams for this and nothing has worked. I get my hives from pressure on my skin and the sun, it really gets me down as I don’t know what to do any more. I’m on benefits at the moment but want to look for work soon, still don’t know what job to do as my hives come when pressure is put on my skin. Has any one got any idea’s for me please?

Hello Stacy…..and all others
I have been experiencing CU for about 10 months now. Mine came on suddenly after having a shingles vaccination. Whether this triggered it or not remains a mystery.
I am an accountant and am blessed that this is probably the best job to have while having CU. There are so many jobs that I could no longer do!
As I read the blogs on this wonderful website I wonder if I am seeing a common thread. We all seem to talk about exercising and getting stressed or anxious. Is this a big part of the problem? Are we all Type A personalities to the point that our bodies say “Hey wait a minute….I am shutting you down here for a rest”?
Personally, I am blessed in that my general practice doctor has me on 400MG of Cimetidine per day as an antihistamine and a daily dose of a prescription “tranquilizer”. This seems to be helping. I am no longer woken up at night by attacks and I find I can have stressful conversations without being attacked. However, as I write this I am heading to a family BBQ on Labor Day, it is 80 degrees and sunny out….I AM DREADING IT!
It must be horrible to be a child or even a young adult with CU. I can only say; try to manage your surroundings at work, play and whenever and try a daily dose of a combination of antihistamines and sedatives as prescribed by a doctor. The help isn’t instantaneous, but rather gradual.

This is such a mysterious and mentally exhausting thing to deal with daily. Hoping they don’t get any worse and hoping it will go away never to return! 40 years is a long time to endure these types of setbacks. Prayer changes things, so pray like never before. He may take it away or not, but he’ll be right there with you. I’m talking about Jesus!

Amen…my daughter has been suffering with this since she was a toddler. I took her to a Dermatologist and they told us she basically has Chronic Hives. Benadryl and Claritin has been given to her and it’s made a world of difference. I was buying sensitive soap for her, changed our laundry detergent and bought expensive lotions and none of them help. We took her to the doctor and they gave her 100 sticks to see if she was allergic to anything and the tests results came back negative. The doctor then had an idea and made a big X on the back of her back. It welted up in about 2 min. She then told her to start doing jumping jacks and the hives came out all over body within 1 min. of doing the exercise. So, in a nutshell this happens to her when she gets really hot and is doing physical activity. Also, it happens when she gets nervous and anxious. We give her Benadryl at night and Claritin during the day. I give her one chewable Claritin since they are so expensive during the day and she has no break outs. We also keep a Epi Pen just in case because you never know how serious the hives can get. If you have this condition everything that bites you or rubs against your skin really hard affects you guys 10 times more than the average person who does not have this condition. I forgot the hormone, but the Dr. say that people with Chronic Hives have more of this hormone in their body. I hope this helps everyone out π
