You’ve been very helpful to me TWICE! In March 2010 I didn’t know what was going on with me. Suddenly I had these weird itchy painful things going on in my body. I couldn’t go outside to walk my dog, I couldn’t exercise, I couldn’t eat wasabi peas! I looked up “heat intolerance” and found things like MS… but knew that couldn’t be right…. COULD IT???
Then I found your website which explained to me what was going on with me. CHOLINERGIC URTICARIA! That’s EXACTLY IT! Exactly my bodily sensations. Thanks Hivesguy. (do you think you should change your name now :)).
I hadn’t been to this site in a long time. This past year my hives were really getting in the way of life, and I started Googling it again just a little over a month ago. I saw “someone” wrote a book about it! I was so excited! It’s like the first book ever on CU! I bought it and then realized, it was YOU! Coolness 🙂
I read it, and thought… hmmmn…. well, it is worth a shot. And then I thought more about it. You know what… I have been a vegetarian since I was 14 (currently 34). I was vegan for a bout 1.5 years, and the hives started 3-6 months after I re-introduced dairy and eggs back into my diet…and I just all around started eating less… cautiously…
SO…just over three weeks ago, I went all out! I cut out dairy, eggs, soy, corn, mostly gluten and wheat (I actually took a celiac test and needed gluten in my system for that), and I’ve cut out citrus and other acidic foods like tomato (at least overall)… Mostly it is fresh veggies and fruit, nuts and seeds, some beans, and I’ve had some rice, quinoa and yams – primarily coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil Also, primarily organic and non gmo.
And two weeks later I was still feeling my hives. Three weeks later… they’ve completely disappeared! It’s like magic….
I’m hoping my body and I are making a truce with each other. I am nice to my body – I nourish it the way it desires and deserves to be nourished… and in turn it doesn’t make it feel like I’m being bitten by thousands of fire ants! Among other illnesses and such…
So, thank you. I may at some point try to eat a few things containing soy, and probably non-gmo corn. Right now, I have enjoyed my last two HOT showers! Right now, I am very happy. Very content. And don’t want to play with fire!! (actually, it could be fun to play with heat, since apparently I can do that now! :)).
Hope you are still doing well.

Beth,
I’m so glad to hear that you’re hives have calmed down. That’s AWESOME! I pray that they stay away for good and that you can continue to figure more out with your diet experiments. It does take a lot of time, and that’s the hardest part about it. It often takes 3-4 weeks of removing a food before you begin to feel the difference, and sometimes you can easily inadvertently eat something that begins to cause issues again.
Yes, my hives are still gone, and I’ve been blessed with excellent health the past few years (praise God).
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your story with the community. I also want to thank you for buying my book, and for the kind words you wrote above. It really meant a lot to me.
I hope you continue to enjoy great health, and that your hives become nothing more than a distant memory.
God bless,
Hivesguy (or…nonhivesguy, lol)
