Vitamin B (Or B6) For Cholinergic Urticaria? Can vitamin b or vitamin b6 help chronic hives or cholinergic urticaria symptoms?
Post by: Duper on August 31, 2008, 02:29:11 PM
I’m sure you guys have seen my posts about Vitamin B and how much it’s been helping me. I don’t know if anyone else has followed through and tried it yet. I take Nature Made Super B-Complex and it’s helped me more than all the antihistamines that I’ve ever taken without any side effects.
I exhausted my bottle of the stuff yesterday, and I’m just waiting for the sun to go down so I can go to the store and buy it. My 60 count bottle ($7, I believe) lasted me a few months (I break the pills in half), and I’m buying the 300 count bottle tonight.
I don’t know exactly how or why it works so well to help me sweat, but you guys MUST try it. The only side effect is that you will regret not having bought it earlier. And if you do try it, please post a follow up.

I’m wondering whether this is a red herring, and you’ve been better off because it’s been summer. BUT, I’ll get some Vitamin B from the supermarket tomorrow and give it a shot.

I doubt that. I’ve had Cholinergic Urticaria for almost 3 years now (made it through 3 summers) and there is definitely a huge improvement. I went to the store to buy the 300 count bottle, but there weren’t any left. I bought a 100 ct bottle, which should last me a while anyhow… Maybe I’ve had some sort of deficiency, and it’s helping. I really want to hear how you guys respond to this though.

I tried it, didn’t really notice much difference. I stopped taking vitamin B pills after a couple of months cause I then learned it can cause liver damage.

Thank you for sharing your update on the vitamins Duper.
I have not tried vitamin B alone, I have taken a multivitamin that included vitamin B for a while and didn’t see any results so I stopped taking them (I had taking medicine or pills).
But that is interesting about your progress. Let us know if it continues, and I hope your hives continue to ease up.

Your link suggests that excessive Vitamin B is simply excreted, I haven’t found anything (after browsing other sites as well) that would suggest vitamin B would lead to liver damage.
I’m sorry to hear you guys didn’t notice improvements.

OK, apparently the supermarket doesn’t sell Vitamin B, so I won’t be trying this after all.

Sorry for not having followed up, guys. I’ve been really busy. I have not been taking Vitamin-B consistently because it’s Winter now, and I have to really make an effort to sweat (and I can’t exercise because I’ve been so busy!). It’s a frustrating cycle. Still, my experience with vitamin B was great and I definitely intend to start taking it again as soon as I have to time to exercise properly. Ultimately, I don’t think this will be a cure of any sort; but the relief it will provide is tremendous.
Has anyone else tried it yet?

No, I have not yet tried Vitamin B by itself. I have tried a multivitamin that contained vitamin b. I also tried Vitamin D3 for a while, but I recently stopped taking it since I couldn’t notice a difference.

Title: Vitamin B & Fish Oil Pill for Cholinergic Urticaria

I am on my way to wal-mart to buy both of these pills and give them a try! My Hives are awful right now since the weather is going from cold to hot and my body hasn’t begun to sweat normally rght now. I will update people through out the week on how things are going.
Also, sad news, but still: My fiance & I are probably going to be ending things soon, and not together anymore. Strangely enough, my hives started just as her, her scent, her dog, came into my life. I don’t know if it’ll cure the hives, but if it does, I will let you guys know.
Note: I am not breaking up with her just cause it MIGHT cure my hives, haha.

Good luck with the pills. I know some people think they help, so I hope they can provide at least some relief for you. I certainly know how frustrating it is dealing with the hives when they are really reactive.
I am also sorry to hear about the possibility of your relationship ending. I suppose these things happen in life, and I wish you and your fiance the best. Who knows, maybe it was the dog causing the hives after all, hehe.
But good luck and let us know if you get any relief from your hives!

No improvement yet, granted it’s only been a week, but it’s been bad, if not worse.
It is starting to get hotter in Georgia. We had snow last sunday and it’s 79 degrees this sunday. This is the hardest part of the year, getting use to the hot. I am breaking out 1-3 times a day, not full blown, covered in bumps attacks. But a little itch & sting, enough to piss me OFF! haha
I will keep taking the pills, let them get in my system, and I will be changing my diet soon to see how that improves, I just gotta figure out what exactly I am suppose to change, diet wise.

Thanks for the update Lenton.
I personally don’t think that the fish oil pills will cure Cholinergic Urticaria, although it might help. It is really hard to know if something is helping or not sometimes, simply because Cholinergic Urticaria seems to go up & down in intensity on a regular basis.
I agree that it may help some by trying to modify your diet. I keep doing that, and I hope that this combined with the sweating/sun exposure this summer will be the answer. Even if it doesn’t cure the hives, at least they may get to a point where they really don’t bother me. I could settle for that as well I suppose.
Thanks for the update and let us know if anything changes.

Title: Vitamin B (Or B6) For Cholinergic Urticaria?

I’ve had cholinergic urticaria for 12 years now. Recently I tried a high dose of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine + P-5-P) and within 3 days my hives completely disappeared. A also take a B-100 complex and magnesium with the B6.

Cool thanks for the info. I am also going to try this. Not only do I have heat hives, my energy is sometimes really poor. B’s are also important for energy!

Adverse effects have only been documented from vitamin B6 supplements and never from food sources. This article only discusses the safety of the common supplemental form of vitamin B6 pyridoxine (for a full discussion please see pyridoxine). Toxicologic animal studies identify specific destruction of the dorsal root ganglia[17] which is documented in human cases of overdosage of pyridoxine.[18] Although vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin and is excreted in the urine, doses of pyridoxine in excess of the RDI over long periods of time thus result in painful and ultimately irreversible neurological problems.
Straight from wikipedia. Just sayin’.

Doses of pyridoxine higher than 200 mg per day taken over a long period of time, can result in some mild peripheral neuropathy.
That is why I also take a balansed B vitamin complex and magnesium and zinc to counteract the potental toxicity of B6.
I also take P-5-P , which is the activated form of vitamin B6.
Taking p5p together with regular B6 also prevents the occurence of neuropathy.
It’s about puroluria and oxidative stress, which I think is also a cause of cholinergic urticaria.

Title: RELIEF!!!!
Post by: Phanatik on May 27, 2011, 08:04:30 PM
——————————————————————————–
Well folks…I don’t know what to tell you. I’m sweating and putting myself in stressful situations with no adverse effects..and loving it!!!
It started last night while on a video chat when I noticed that (being a bit nervous) I was sweating under my arms. This was a welcomed nuisance.
Then, this morning I went outside to trim the hedges in 87 degree heat under direct sunlight and boy did my back sweat. I proceeded to put myself in these scenarios the entire day in order to keep sweating (or at least see if I could). So what gives? Or what gave?
1. Well, I’ve been taking B vitamins for weeks with no real results (though I believe I had results in the past with B’s).
2. I’ve also been intermittently taking Metanx, a drug used to help diabetics who suffer from stinging nerve issues do to myelin sheath deterioration. (Metanx contains b vitamins as well).
3. 3 Days ago, I began to take my 2-times-a-day B vitamins once a day, but at the same time. Figured maybe I could shock my system if it’s getting more at once.
4. 3 Days ago I upped my water intake to something ridiculous…like 10 glasses a day.
It could be any or all of the above that is bringing me relief, OR, this could just be seasonal relief and all the other stuff is merely coincidental.
I guess I will only know if I keep up the water and B’s until after the season changes. Some of you who’ve experienced this relief before know what it’s like to forget about the pain and become lazy with the medicinal measures. Hopefully I won’t this time.
I’ll report back with good or not-so-good news.
God bless

Title: Vitamin B really seems to work!!
Post by: kcorsair on April 20, 2012, 11:19:25 AM

Hi everyone!
I’m a 20 yo from Canada, suffered Cholinergic urticaria since about 2 months. In the beginning it wasn’t as bad, but progressively got worse that hives would break out on my arms and chests even if I just walk slowly from my house to the bus, which only takes 5 min. As I was googling trying to find some treatment or cures for that pathology, I stumbled upon this forum and read through almost every post. Yesterday I bought a bottle of vitamin b, B-100, as I saw that some people claimed that this really made some difference in their symptoms. I decided to give a try, and it really seems to work!! just after taking 1 tablet yesterday night, I found that my symptoms drastically got better.
I just walked about 10min at a rather fast pace, and almost no hives! usually my arms would be covered completely with itchy bumps.
I just got so excited from that finding and I needed to share this news with all the fellow sufferers of this annoying disease. I just walked to school and I’m typing as the teacher is giving a lecture in front lol
As I only tried it for one day and seems to work well, I’m not sure yet 100% that it works, but I’ll update you guys if there’s any new findings about this potential treatment!
