I’m 15 and have been struggling with Cholinergic Urticaria on my scalp for a year. When seeing the doctor, they said to take Allergy medicine, and that was it. I was still so angry I couldn’t get rid of this horrible thing.
When it does get hot, I don’t sweat at all. I wish I could get help, and sadly, I have to wait a month to see a dermatologist. Based on what I read, Cholinergic Urticaria caused me to have psoriasis as well. I’m tired of fighting and itching on my scalp.
Going to start taking allergy medicine for antihistamines, when I do take allergy medicine, I don’t itch as often. Do antihistamines help with this?
Thanks,
Jake Sal

Jake,
Sorry to hear of your struggles with cholinergic urticaria. At one point, my CU did seem to start coming out on my scalp as well. But it eventually stopped doing that. It was annoying when it did that, so I can sympathize with your pain and frustration.
Regarding antihistamines, yes, they can help some, but it varies per individual. Zyrtec and Allegra are pretty popular over-the-counter antihistamines. They may help take the edge off, but it’s different for everyone.
Thanks for taking the time to post.

Hi, I would also try to figure out what it is that you are allergic to and avoid it at all cost. In my case, I am allergic to gluten. I cannot eat anything with gluten in it at all or my CU comes back with a vengeance.

I think the dermatologist may ask me to do that too! Maybe I’ll try going gluten free for a little bit. Thank you!

I have been given Allegra and it is the ONLY thing that touches urticaria when I have a full-blown flare of this disease right now. Once in a while, the dr’s have to give me Predisone to treat the flare, but mostly it is just solely the Allegra in the mornings, and at night I take 75 milligrams of Zantac (rantidine) to sort of ward the hives off at night.
