Could this be cholinergic urticaria?

March 13, 2017 by Forum Member

I’m a 57-year-old female. I seem to have all the symptoms of this, heating up, prickly feeling, then the itching. It comes and goes throughout the day. I’ve seen 2 doctors who say it’s nonsense because I don’t have a rash or hives!

I have had this twice before when doctors way back then took me off my meds. They believed I was allergic, too. It eventually went away, but the doctors I have now DO NOT believe it is drug related or that it’s urticaria. Why? Because there’s no rah or hives!

They did some blood work and said no allergies showed up to foods or anything airborne either. (They did say allergy testing is kind of hit & miss).

They wont send me to a dermatologist because I have nothing visible on my skin. This time it’s gone on for about 6 weeks, and I’m at my wits end trying to solve this. I know I don’t get a lot of sun up here in Alberta Canada, but I am taking Vitamin D. I do relate to a lot of the posts on here except for the rash and hives.

Anybody care to answer me?

Purple Lady

Yes it could be possible that you have it as I had the same symptoms again without any rashes or hives which made it hard to convince the doctors

Listen lady,It started with me as far as i can remember 4 years ago or atleast 3 years.
I live in Pakistan so we have 2 major weathers here,Almost 4,4months hard winter and summer.
I also get it in Winter only and in Summer i sweat like A flowing River!
In the beginning it was not much itch and no rashes,But sometimes my skin turned red and it went normal soon.
But this year i am screwed! I get wbite hives in severe breakout or my skins looks like eed bumps which are not raised from skin.
      Both of these goes soon.
I think its the beginning of your problem.
Call Jesus,God, a doctor or anyone but try to get rid of it as soon as you can bcoz once it turned severe it feels like torture many times every day

So is there any actual blood test that diagnoses this? Also Iv read that some ppl who really work up a sweat can make it disappear & for others it’s only temporary. I don’t fully understand the whole “sweat” factor in this. I appreciate your replys.

I’ve had this for most of my life and had the same experience with doctors. The only thing that has helped me is to keep my body temperature up and to sweat. I use a heating blanket at night if it’s below 60 F. Also, while driving to the gym or a music performance I turn my car heater all the way up until the itching is gone in about 15-20 minutes (be careful, it takes getting used to). During summers in California my body temperature stays up so I don’t itch much.

I’d suggest you supply your doctors with a pile of testimonies from the internet.

The pin prickling issue from external heat ( versus cold for me) and anxiety driven incidents brought my life to standstill for about a year.

For me it just slowly faded away. But I live in fear of its return.

Read the book and figure out what works for you.

    I wish you well

Thanks for your replys. I did print off a page of the symptoms including where it said not everybody experiences the rash or hives .Doctors wouldn’t even look at it & told me to stop searching the internet! I was going to try a different Dr. but they are in such short demand & none of them are taking on new patients. I cant seem to find a pattern or a rhyme or reason for when this flares up or what sets it off. It seems worse in the evenings for me. Is the book available in any book stores or just online?

Yeah, cholinergic urticaria doesn’t always show visible signs, and some people just feel intense itching/prickling when they become hot. It sounds like your doctors aren’t interested in listening to what you’re saying, which is unfortunate. I know they may be in short supply, but you might want to research some allergists or dermatologists in your area. They’ll likely be more familiar with the different types of hives. The book is available online only through Amazon, Smashwords, and a couple other online sites.

Hi everyone, please see my lengthy, detailed, October 24, 2016 post on this forum. I was cured of CU by adopting a whole-food, plant-based (“vegan”) diet. Modern science is beginning to understand the mechanism as to why this works. CU is an autoimmune disorder. Eating a diet high in fiber serves to regulate the immune system, preventing it from overreacting. This solution is easy, it is inexpensive, and it works. Give it a try.
