Does this sound like cholinergic urticaria?

February 19, 2015 by Hivesguy

I think I had scabies last autumn. Well I’m pretty sure I did, as my son did and I had similar symptoms. I used masses of permethrin cream and some other stuff and think I over did it. Basically it’s a pesticide and I’m wondering whether it has done something to my skin and I now have cholinergic urticaria.

Through my 20′ s I had dermographism, and I am now in my 50′ s and wondering if this makes me susceptible? My symptoms are when I get warm, mainly in the evenings when I sit down, I itch and it’s the kind of itch you can’t quite get at.

Can be any part of my body but mostly forearms legs ankles feet waist, then a number of things could happen. I either go patchy red, get small round hives, get red scratch type marks or thin lines like wheals. Lasts an hour or so then gone, no signs left except possible bruising where I have scratched so much. Does this sound like cholinergic urticaria?

Thanks

Jess

    Jess,
Sorry to hear of you hives issues. People with one type of allergic disorder are often more prone to developing others. Having Dermatographism means you may be at a slightly higher risk of developing other type of allergies or urticaria.

Most people with CU experience the reaction with active or passive heating. Do you get this when you exercise and sit in a hot room? My hives reactions would clear up within minutes, but some people with CU have reported having the visible signs last for an hour or two.

For a definite diagnosis, you may want to see an allergist or dermatologist familiar with CU.

I hope that helps, and I hope your hives go away soon.
    God bless,
    Hivesguy

Hello Jess, as “Hivesguy” said ,does it feel itchy when you exercise, when you take a hot bath, when you run and when you expose your skin to direct sunlight?
It all starts with one location, and like a bee attack, and then it feels like 100 bees are just attacking you simultaneously, and then when the case gets worse, hives appear on your skin and it gets red.
Usually, the forehead, the back , and the chest are the first places to feel itchy.

Hope you’re fine, this is a very annoying allergy !
