How soon do hives come back after cheating in diet?

May 3, 2016 by Forum Member

I’d like to ask a question to those of you with cholinergic urticaria that is diet related. How long does it take to feel itchy or feel the symptoms come back when you eat something wrong or cheat in your diet?

Do you get hives immediately? Does it come back slowly?

Thanks,

Eslam

It depends, Eslam. If I eat something that I have major issues with, such as dairy/milk/cheese, it would likely come back pretty intense within a day or two. If I eat something that only causes mild problems, it may take a week or so (and be only a bit prickly). It usually takes about 2-4 weeks to go away again after eating strictly.

Hey hivesguy, which foods give you only mild symptoms?

If I eat some foods that cause my hives, a rash shows up the next day. It takes around 5-7 days to subside once I stop eating the food again.

I have learned now that it just isn’t worth eating the foods that cause my hives problem. Some people seem to be able to get away with it now and then, but I’m not one of them unfortunately!

What foods cause you problems Eslam?
