Title: nystatin possible cause of Cholinergic Urticaria? Post by: theomimi on July 14, 2009, 04:18:38 PM

So i recently concluded that i do indeed have cholinergic urticaria. by the way things look, it doesnt seem curable by any medication so i havent bothered with a dermatologist or a normal physician. but when i first did notice the hives i was using a topical cream for some other heat related rash. the cream is called nystatin and im pretty sure after the first or second time i used it and went outside for a run or to play basketball, the heat hives started to show. this was the first i had ever seen them but i had no clue where it was coming from. after a week or so i realized one of nystatin’s serious allergic reactions was hives and itchiness. it is quite frustrating knowing what could have been the possible cause for this horrid ailment but at the same time its just a guess. thoughts and comments?

Hello theomimi,
Great post and welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear that you too are suffering from cholinergic urticaria.
As far as the nystatin cream, I have never even used it. It is always possible that creame or some chemical somehow induces cholinergic urticaria, but so far I haven’t noticed any connection among the people on this forum. For most of us, it just kind of appears one day for no particular reason.
Anyway, I am sorry to hear you have this as well. I hope you get some relief soon.
Thanks again for the great post and welcome!

I haven’t heard of nystatin either. Nystatin may be an allergen for some people that causes hives… but if Nystatin is the sole allergic then the hives should go away after awhile of avoiding the chemical.
