Hello all,
I’ve just found this forum and its a relief! I’m a 23 y/o female, and I’ve been suffering from cholinergic urticaria for 8 years now. The onset in the summer of 2010 was fast and extreme. I went from being symptomless to laying on the beach blind and covered in these hives. Let me explain.
I had gone body surfing in the Atlantic ocean, and during this I felt light headed and decided to head back to my family, at this point I had lost all my vision, and collapsed to the ground with hives covering my body. When the reaction went away and we were able to make it to a doctor, we were left with no answers. Through my 8 years it has only gotten worse, although I’ve never had a reaction like that since.
I severely react to what feels like everything: brisk walks, exercise, anxiety, showers, pools, you name it. I’ve tried a host of different medication which would aid in temporary relief but mostly just knock me out, resulting in a two year period where I needed 12 hours of sleep a day.
I’ve read a lot about sweat therapy, and although I’ve tried it’s just that painful to workout. I now not only have hives but become lightheaded, nauseous and blurry vision.
I am desperate for answers because I feel as though I’m living a hindered life.
Any suggestions please let me know,
Sarahp

Sounds like you have very low immune system in your body… Perhaps you might want to check white blood cell count….
Yes my husband has hives but only his face area… nothing severe like you… This symptom started after we moved to Caribbean region which is area of Atlantic Ocean …
I believe that water in this region.. He is absolutely ok if we stay in some countries but straight away he has hives in some countries.
Have you been to different countries for holiday ? That’s how you could test if trigger is water…
I changed all foods … eat foods has high vitamin B12 which boost white blood cells.. and eat more alkaline foods and cut down sugar…probably we consume a half spoon of sugar in a week…
But we try not to take any medicine… try to find natural remedy.. You have to recognize trigger and have to find solution from there… And never give up !… ..

mine started in 2010 also. Must have been a particularly high humidity strange year. It was right after I was the donor for my sister’s bone marrow transplant, although I don’t believe that had anything to do with it. I remember the day the hives first came raging as we took pictures out of fear of what might happen. It was a particularly stressful day as I just moved in with my mother as she could no longer live alone.
Like you it has gotten worse since.
I have gained so much weight as I can’t even do much walking.
I had a breakout the other day after trigger thumb surgery. We were thinking it was a Chloraprep allergy, something in the tourniquet, stress, or just plain this awful Cholinergic Urticaria.

Hi Sarah! I’m in the SAME BOAT. 8 years for me.. Itchy annoying hives that come and go. I see an allergist and have been taking OTC Allegra 2x/day for 8 years. Has it improved? Don’t think so. When I miss a day.. The itch is unbearable! I’ve tried all remedies. I’m going to buy the book and hope there’s some thing else I can do to eliminate this misery. I just want to be NORMAL again!!
