Hey there all of you hived up people. I’ve recently taken Zyrtec and it made my hives explode. Does anybody have an antihistamine that doesn’t affect us and make us covered in hives?
Zyrtec didn’t work for me either. I take 2 Allegra and 1 Zantac twice a day. It helps with the itching and stinging and has reduced the number of times I break out a day. I still get hives several times a day because of my work and going to the gym. Unfortunately, after 2 years of working with an allergist and immunologist this is the best treatment I have tried. Good luck!

Hi Ali , When I first was diagnosed in the late 80’s by Dr. Soter who is a researcher in antihistamines he tried many antihistamines to try and help with my CU .At that time he was one of the few doctors who was knowledgable and working with a few patients I was one but most of his time was spent in research . He is still in practice at NYU .There are people with CU who antihistamines DO NOT work and I am one of them there is a name for this but I forget it .If I was to say of the many antihistamines I was give the only one that gave me a very little help was Hydroxzine ( not sure of spelling ) which is a very old antihistamine .I hope antihistamines help you but if not keep trying to find your unique solution . Also try calling the dermatology dept. at NYU and se if Dr. Soter is available or another doctor working with CU patients .

I was diagnosed in High School in the 70’s with CU and have been on 1 25mg of Hydroxyzine since the 80’s. I take it every evening before I go to bed (because the side effect is that it makes you tired), and it works wonderful for me. I tried to go off of it several times but the hives come back every time.

Antihistamines are the most useless pills I’ve ever taken. All they did for me was that it removed the rash but I still felt itchy.
I’m currently trying Propranolol and I do feel that my attacks are weaker now. I’m not saying it works and I’m not even sure if it’s the reason why my attacks got weaker. If you want relief just use the sauna treatment.

After years of sifting through the antihistamines, I have become less sensative to my triggers (hot, cold, exercise, stress..you name it..it’s a trigger to me) by taking Allegra 180 every 12 hours along with Singulair once daily.
