Hey everyone!
I am new here. I just found this body lotion called “Cetaphil Restoraderm” on Amazon, and I was surprised when I saw someone saying that this has helped his cholinergic urticaria.
Here is what the review says on Amazon, back from 2010:
“I have very oily, very hyper-sensitive skin that has never responded to any prescription treatments from doctors or dermatologists. And if that isn’t enough, I also suffer from what has been diagnosed as Cholinergic Urticaria (scratches appearing on skin after sweating..i.e..from exercising or whatever) and Dermographism, where long, welt-like scratches will present themselves on my back, arms and neck for no apparent reason and at any given time. The scratches look as if someone/something has attacked my skin with a vengence. Needless to say, the breakouts causes terrible stinging, burning, raised and inflamed skin and leaves the most unsightly marks after each episode.
On the days when these conditions occur (they are not food-related that I can see), forget about being able to take a bath or shower or allowing water and especially soap on the skin because it can really hurt.
After having success with Cetaphil’s bar soap and moisturizing cream, I decided to try the Restoraderm Skin Restoring Body Wash after seeing it on sale at Target. And, boy, am I glad I did.
Not only has my skin lost that tight, parched, and itchy feeling, but many of the old scratch marks from years ago on my back and arms seem to be lightening up and fading as well. And while I am not confortable saying that a product has “cured” my skin afflictions, Restoraderm has done more than I ever imagined could happen. The frequency of the breakouts has also changed, and when they do come, the swellings and irritation is very minor and slight and the skin returns to normal quickly without the red welts and scratches ever forming.
My sincere thanks to Cetaphil! And, yeah, this stuff does cost an arm and a leg, but in my opinion, it’s worth every single penny. I’m just so happy to finally be able to add another item to my very, very short list of “HG” skincare products.
Prosperity and peace to all!”

I am definitely going to give this a shot! Please let me know if someone has tried it before.
Thanks,
Ali

Hello, Ali. Are you different from the other “Ali” member on this forum? If so, welcome to the forum.
Anyway, I would only point out one thing in the review: The person said it helped, but didn’t cure their cholinergic urticaria.
I’ve never tried this brand of lotion/body wash, but I’ve long suggested people try “Eucerin Calming Creme” as a lotion, and Dove Sensitive Skin soap. It also helped my hives a lot when I had them badly. However, like the person above, lotion/soap alone didn’t cure it. Nevertheless, it can help keep the skin moisturized, which I’ve found does help quite a bit in reducing symptoms and making my skin feel more comfortable.
I still use Eucerin/Dove soap often these days–especially in the winter–just because it keeps my skin moisturized.
So while I can’t comment on that particular brand, I do think it is a very good practice for people with CU to get a great quality lotion to keep their skin moisturized, and to use a good moisturizing (and hypoallergic) soap. Perhaps both brands are worth a try.
Thanks for your post.

I’ll try the Dove soap hopefully it helps

The Dove soap won’t cure your cholinergic urticaria. I recommend it only to keep your skin from drying out so much, which I feel can make the CU a little more bearable at times. For me, the biggest factor was diet.
