Cholinergic Urticaria in Autumn/Winter?

November 25, 2015 by Forum Member

Hi all,

I have this disease since more than one year. It appeared on September 2014 after a single stressing event to which I was not prepared. I went to a lot of dermatologist and allergist, prescribing me different antihistamines, but it’s not related to histamine level since in summer when I take no meds, it disappear.

In autumn/winter, when I exercise half an hour, when I stop, after 10 minutes red spots appear mainly on arms inner parts and neck. Why are they only there and never on my stomach or legs for example?

I tried desloaradine, fexofenadine, ebastine, and bilastine, but in autumn/winter the disease does what it wants. Also, I think that exercising every day can worsen things, since capillaries seems inflamed and reacts to day by day physical stimuli.

What can I do? Please can you help me?

-Salvo

    Salvo,

I feel for you, brother. I suggest you watch the youtube video or read the book that Ben has made relating his findings. Yes, it is stimulated by physical stimuli, but most likely the elimination diet Ben recommends can help you cure it or come close. Don’t spend years guessing and theorizing and spend decades in misery before you try the diet approach. There is no need to suffer when the cause of you pain can be found, and also remember it is not going to kill you and it only lasts a while then you are free of it at least for a while. Most sick people are not so fortunate. Hang in there..I recommend the book and video. I have not found ANYTHING in 40 years that worked as well.

      Hi John,

thanks for your reply. I eat same things in summer and autumn/winter, diet for me it’s not the cause. I also tried last year elimination diet. I eat healty all the year, no alcol, no cigarettes, no drugs. The only things make it disappear is summer.

      Regards

So what I thinK Is that in autum/winter skin pores are clogged than if a rapid bodu temperature increase happens than we central nervous system sends to the body signals to sweat, but the pores are clogged so we get hives. Once the pores are free we can sweat and hives disappears. In summer pores are always free and our body temperature is higher than in winter and we sweat always with free pores, so there is no urticaria. I think.this can make sense in case of cu in autumn/winter.

    Hi Colin here
    In Scotland
I am pretty sure after reading and watching videos I have this horrible condition
It has been going on now for a few months it just stated out of the blue
The prickly sensation can happen anytime
If I am working in the garden
If I stopped to talk to someone in the street
Worst of all when I go swimming after doing about a few lengths my whole body is affected
The needle like pain is in my hair ,my legs chest and back and for done reason lately I have discovered that by going out the pool and into a hot shower this can stop it instantly
I then go back into the pool and it’s just comes back
    It drives me crazy
I can walk into a hot room and instantly my body gets the prickly feeling
It can be very severe and drives me so crazy
The feelings are very severe and horrible
Also wether this is related or not
If I am dozing in a warm room I can get what feels like a electric shock which makes my body jolt and this last about a second
Will be going to see a doc next week
    Colin

Hello, Colin. It does sound like cholinergic urticaria is a possibility. I hope your doctor is able to offer a definite diagnosis. Thanks for posting!

Well the stinging can be so severe at times I just have to sit down and take deep breaths till it passes
When it hits me it can last for a good 20 mins and when am in the pool swimming its can last a lot longer
Might try the sweat therapy and go to a Sauna see if I can kick start the sweat process
Have had a condition for most of my life where my body instantly over heats if I walk into a room with central heating from the cold
But this prickly horrible feeling only started a few months ago
If I get into a bath that’s to hot my hands go bright red and hot
        Could be connected

That’s interesting about your other condition. Yes, they could be related, and yes, CU can have a horrible stinging feeling to it.
