Cholinergic Urticaria Questions

September 20, 2017 by Forum Member

Hi everyone! I am living with this awful condition for the past 5 months. I have some questions because I’m still learning about this condition.

  1. Does anyone else get anaphylaxis allergic reaction, needing an epipen?
  2. How long does this condition last for?
  3. What are your best ways of cooling done when this responds happen?
  4. Anyone else get light headed too?

Thanks!
Let me know please ????

my 15yo son has had this for about 1&1/2 yrs now. no epipen needed yet. he wears light clothing and tries to stay hydrated and cool always but sometimes it happens anyway. he does get light headed too. dr suggested once a day zyrtec but it does nothing. planning to take him to an immunologist. interesting note: i was diagnosed with another form of urticaria right around the time i became pregnant with him.

    Hi,

If you are on FacebookI have found a lot of information from this group, chronic urticaria support group (private). Ask to join.

I had 3 anaphylaxis events when I first started getting Urticaria and angiodema back in June 2017. I have an epi pen now but have never used it or had to consider it.

They say many times you can go into remission in a year. But everyone is different and requires a different level of medication.

Along with antihistamines, If my hives are hot and burning I take aka seltzer GOLD or a teaspoon of baking soda in a full glass of water. I use over the counter cortisone cream the max strength just on the hives (the painful ones).

I do get light headed at times and my vision gets a little blurry.

I am on 4 different antihistamines spread out throughout the day. Mine come out when the sun goes down until about 8am,

I have a million thoughts as to why I got these and I may never know for sure. Find a good doctor who can help you and is a good listener.

    All the best,

    MK

    Hi! How are you!
I am 21 & was recently diagnosed with CU!
However, my hives are pin point hives. They are not itchy, and rarely get super big. I was recently prescribed Hydroxyzine (3 days ago) and I’m having fewer dots.

It started in July & I was put into anaphylaxitic shock 3 times since then (all after drinking the night before). Does anyone think this has anything to do with CU & drinking? Please let me know!

Hi drinking might have something to do with it. I know for me I have to take it slow drinking because I get heated up/temperature increase from it. Which can cause me an anaphylaxitic reaction

Do some research on “histamine intolerance”. I have only begun my research because alcohol does the same to me. While reading about “histamine intolerance”, for the first time I had an explanation to why this was happening and the feeling that someone knew what I was talking about.
