My cholinergic urticaria story and various questions

September 3, 2018 by Forum Member

Hello everyone!

I’ve had CU for 3 years now. I tried nearly EVERYTHING to get rid of my hives, and only one year ago did I discover that sweat therapy works for me. I go to the sauna at least four times a week and this keeps my CU at bay.

Despite the fact that I live in harmony with my CU these days, a friend of mine recently has encouraged me to keep trying to find the cause of my hives (people who haven’t had CU don’t seem to understand that it’s not as easy as get some medication and it’s done!!). It has inspired me to go to a doctor who was keen on me seeing an allergist, and this is one specialist I hadn’t visited. Has anyone ever had positive experiences from an allergists’ take on CU?

The reason why it would be beneficial for me to keep exploring the cause of my CU is I would like to have a family one day and pregnant women aren’t supposed to use the sauna.

I look forward to hearing any thoughts on this! Thanks!

=Mikayla

I am dealing with CU for about a year now. I take Zyrtec every morning to try to just deal with it during the day. This weekend was worse than usual for me. I broke out around my bra line from the heat and friction on my skin. I got into a pool after being in the heat all day Saturday at a back to school bash for munchies daughter and had a rash all over my chest and neck. Taking baths are even a challenge! I haven’t tried a sauna. I have seen many people on here that have and it helped. I keep trying different things as well to figure out what it is that is causing these hives. I tried the natural deodorant too. I do wonder if it has something to do with foods too. I wish you the best!

Hi Mikayla, I’ve had positive experiences from an allergists’ take on CU as it helped me cancel all the triggers out of my diet! I highly recommend it 🙂

Can you tell us what the usual triggers in diet are? or did you mean you found your own triggers by food journalling? Thanks!

Yes. Patch test that an allergist ordered showed some results; and ALCAT test ordered by Naturapathic Doctor, specializing in allergy, showed some results.
