Cholinergic urticaria and tap water

March 27, 2018 by Forum Member

Hi guys. I have had cholinergic urticaria since moving to a new location in 2016. Recently I had a tour for few days and all through the tour I did not experience CU.

On the day I returned to my base city, a friend of mine hinted that drinking water from the tap causes his skin to itch, and it just occurred to me that all through my tour I have not drank the same water I have been used to for the past two years – that is tap water.

So for the past several days, I have avoided drinking water from the tap, and I feel much better. I have been drinking bottled water since then. I went to the gym yesterday and I only felt a very negligible amount of itching and sweated effortlessly.

My hypothesis is that the tap water in my city may contain something that my sweat gland or whatever is allergic to, not sure though. Who else has tested this hypothesis? I am still watching my body reaction closely before I conclude on this hypothesis.

I wish you guys the best and I hope everyone finds out what works for them.

-Mike

I was thinking something like this too. When I would get flare-ups and would go to the bathroom i started splashing water on myself to cool down, that’s when I started getting hundreds of bumps all over my arms. One day I tested this and the arm that I put water on is the on that got all the bumps (although both arms were still really itchy) the other had very few bumps.

I also get to itching just a little bit while showering. So it seems as if I can’t do much of anything without having a freaking itch. It’s really frustrating to be honest

My husband experienced exactly the same like you . We moved to new country then skin trouble started. Then when we are in different countries, skin is normal. Yes we drink only bottle water and wash vegetable with brita filtered water. And I even wipe out water with cloth after washing dishes. For husband’s shower, I boil water then cool it down then filter through brita then keep in bottles. He has only face skin problem so I only need to make 2 liter a day. But people have full body skin problem then I have no clue how they will manage it !

I suspect that local tap water contains somthing or too high PH level… so need to normalise by boiling tap water…

After shower, he uses special moisturising cream that I found.. It works !! Company name is ” fresh”. One staff at the shop recommended to me when I was looking for moisturising cream for sensitive skin..
