My Cholinergic Urticaria Update – SWEAT THERAPY (Wale)

December 21, 2017 by Forum Member

Hi. This is an update on my previous post (MY CU story). I got this condition when I moved from Africa to Connecticut, USA.

I won’t consider mine as very severe, because I hardly get the visible hives – just the intense itching and burning sensations all over my body. This can be very frustrating and annoying. I know y’all going through this can relate. May God help us.

Like I said, I got this thing when I moved to the US from Africa. At first, I didn’t think much of it because I thought my body was just trying to adjust to the new environment, and it wasn’t so intense too. But as time went on, I continued to get this itching attacks, which became more severe, intense and frequent, so I started to search the net. Luckily for me, I found this website.Thank you Ben.

I saw some articles about sweat therapy, and I was willing to try it out. I bought a portable steam sauna (costs about 75-150 dollars) to help me sweat, and before I used it, I was pretty much nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. But to my surprise, it worked, and when I used it, sweat was pouring out of me like I played sports for hours. NOTE: (Sweat therapy is not safe for everyone and may not work for everyone ).

So its been a month since I started using the sauna, and it has changed my life, though my cholinergic urticaria is not gone. I have to sweat every 2-3 days. I’m thinking of getting a gym membership because of the possible side effects of using a sauna frequently.

I surely recommend the sweat therapy and also eat good. Make it a habit to make your own food and stop buying junk food. Drink plenty of water, and don’t forget to pray. Prayer works wonders! You can reach me on instagram (@wale_tks) if you have anything to say.

Thank You!

-Wale

    Hi Wale,

I also bought a portable steam sauna. I used it once and it worked great. I started sweating after 5 minutes without serious itching. The problem I have with the sauna is its very cheaply made with mostly plastic tubes and such. I’m not crazy about super hot steam coming through the plastic tubing. It gave off a very strong smell.

I don’t receive the steam through the plastic tubes because I don’t receive enough steam .I put the steamer directly inside the sauna and connect it to an extension socket . (I don’t recommend trying this ) you have to do this with extra caution . I think the weird smell is normal with every sauna . I get the smell to but it’s not so string anymore

If that works for you that’s great. I returned mine and will continue to research a different model or join a local gym that has a sauna.

Hi Wale thanks for your post and experience

How often do you use the sauna?

I am thinking of joining the gym too but may not get time everyday to use it, I hope that one session in the sauna will relieve me for a few days

I’ve used all the antihistamines, nettle root extract and eliminated milk from my diet

      Thanks
      HRC

It should receive you for about 2-3 days depending on the severity of your Urticaria. I use it about 3 times a week and I also have a gym membership .If you wanna purchase the sauna make sure it’s the steam sauna not the infrared sauna

          Thanks Wale

I will try the gym first as have limited space at home, It’s almost as our skin cannot adjust from cold to hot

I’ve lived in the UK all my life and I am of Indian ethnicity and this has been affecting me for 11 years!

nothing else works for me apart from running on the treadmill with 2 fan heaters directed at me forcing me to sweat and causing an outbreak of painful hives everyday

as the winters are really cold here, i now have to do this twice a day to release the histamines from my body but sometimes i work til late and don’t get a chance to fit it in, have you tried any anti-histamines or change of diet?

I’m due to see a dermatologist soon

I’ve not tried the diet but I tried various anti histamines and it had little to no effect on my Urticaria .You don’t need much space in your house for the sauna .It’s called a portable steam sauna .It can even fit in a bathroom .If you use this you won’t have to repeat it twice a day. Because of the amount of sweat it forces out of your body .It’s also not as painful as using the exercise method because it’s full of humidity. Heat +Humid = End of Cholinergic Urticaria .
If you eventually buy it I will suggest you place the steamer directly into the sauna as you won’t get enough steam when it’s outside .Connect it to a socket using an multiple socket box.you have to be very careful though so the water won’t pour on your and burn your skin .You have to use extreme caution while doing this .But I promise you if you can do this successfully. You’ll have your life back .you only have to repeat every day ,second or third day or every week depending on the severity of your hives
