Do you ever get non-itchy hives?

January 7, 2016 by Forum Member

I’ve been doing some hormone therapy due to the fact that is a potential cause for cholinergic urticaria.

It’s been about a week since I started, and I still get hives; but instead of being incredibly itchy, they are BARELY itchy! Does anyone know why this might be the case? It’s so weird!

Also, has anyone found relief from antiflammatory drugs? Those have worked for me whereas antihistamines do nothing.

Cheers
Mikayla

Mine were always EXTREMELY itchy/prickly. That’s interesting that the therapy is helping a bit. I hope it goes well for you. Keep us updated on how things go.

I have always gotten 2 types of hives, smaller itchy ones or large ones that don’t itch. With the meds I take now, ranitidine and claratin, I pretty much only get the non itchy hives -when I do breakout.

Hi I have a few questions. What made you take on hormone therapy? Was it advice from your doctor? And what meds are you on? That’s very interesting that you still get them but they are not itchy.

Hi Mark, I took on hormone therapy because I realized that my hives began around the same time that I lost my hormone balance supplements- I use a female balance natural supplements by Now foods that is supposed to regulate estrogen and progesterone.

I also have been eating fat in my diet again, as the strict 0% fat elimination diet I was on For about 2 months (rice and fish pretty much) was not helping my hives at all. I know fats are related to hormones, so it seems between the fats in my diet and the supplements, things are going in the right direction. As for meds, I’ve been taking supplements such as a multi and vitamin D, and some Asprin for headaches recently as I’ve had a bad cold. No antihistamines or other medications.
