I just discovered this website and am thrilled to know there are possible ways to treat this annoying disorder. I currently have a case of hives (from blocked sweat) so severe that my dermatologist prescribed prednisone. Took it the first day and then discontinued. Wretched side effects, like insomnia. I am seeking natural remedies and a way to do cardio exercise without extreme itching and hives.

Hello, Carol. I’m glad you found the site! Welcome to the forum.
I agree that corticosteroids aren’t a very good solution in most cases–especially long term. I have tried them a couple of different times myself.
I certainly hope you can find information on this site to help you treat your hives.

Hi Carol,
I agree that these hives suck! And the medications suck, too! I thought there was nothing out there to help. I’m eating a relatively limited diet, but overall, as long as I stick to it, I have no hives, and when I start to “cheat” on anything, even too much soybean oil, they start to come back. It is a challenge, but I’m so happy not to have hives, I’m okay with it. And if I just have a little bit (for example, one thing cooked in soybean oil), I may have just a few pricks here or there, but nothing major like I was having before.
I’m still able to have a well rounded diet, but mostly made up of fruits and vegetables. I get sad seeing so many people trying so many medications without trying foods. I’m not sure why we aren’t coming up as “allergic” to foods, because clearly it is causing some sort of reaction.
Anyway, good luck to you.

I agree with you, “B.” It can stink sometimes not eating certain foods that I used to love, but the joy of not having hives is so worth it. Hang in there with your diet. You’ll probably find ways to tweak it over time so that you can enjoy a few more foods. I’ve got a few cheat foods that I can eat now, and as long as I do it seldomly and then back off, I find that I am very happy with my diet and my hives stay gone. In terms of my health and diet, I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time.
I’m just so glad that you found a way to manage them.

Hi Carol,
Welcome to the forum! I wanted to ask if you are able to sweat at all? I have extreme trouble sweating in the colder seasons. I actually went on a regular exercise schedule in the warm-times of spring because my inability to sweat, and other symptoms, die down a bit during the summer. If you are able to sweat, you could always try exercising a bit, say, maybe a 20-30 minute jog routinely, but my exercising advice is only if you are able to sweat. I actually read about people with a lack of homeostasis (E.G. Not being able to sweat out), resulting in extreme overheating and leading to hospitalization!
I hope you find a solution soon! We’ll be here to chat and help out every once in a while!
