Food Triggers

November 30, 2016 by Forum Member

Hi, Ive been up all night reading this fabulous book! So …I have had a rollercoaster 8 weeks. Moved to Singapore in August, breast biopsy in early October and all clear. Started flushing, diagnosed with rosacea (weird, Im 46 and never had an allergy, skin problem), then had a massive hives outbreak, itched until they bruised!

Skin biopsy to check for vasculitis came back negative for that but positive for urticaria. Blood test showed mycoplasma infection. So ……..currently I have constant redness. Cant seem to sweat, despite being on the equator although there is an element of fear there i.e. safer to sit in air con than confront the prickling!

My main question is about food ……I did food allergy testing and reacted only to …Kale ….weird! I know the hives could still be caused by food intolerance as opposed to allergy but my question is if a food / group is a trigger then is it always a trigger? I have good days when nothing causes redness, hives are quiet and then bad days when EVERYTHING causes flaming red skin on my face, neck, chest.

If I had an allergy / intolerance is it something that I should react to every day? At the moment I am in this cycle of is it rosacea? is it hives reaction? is it from the mycoplasma? is it a reaction to weeks of antibiotics / antihistamines?

Thanks,

Leanne

Leanne, Kale should be a staple. Those tests are useless. Only using an elimination diet can truly reveal food allergy, and if you quit eating all animal products you will reduce your inflammation, risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. Watch Dr. Michael Greger on youtube for more, and try Ben’s dietary suggestions, although I highly recommend whole plant foods only and no oils. Best of luck.

Thanks John! I suspected they were useless when they came back with only Kale! Yes ….have totally changed my diet, no caffeine or alcohol, no dairy or sugar and gluten free ……but my face is still flaring some days and fine the next….there doesn’t seem to be any massive response to one individual thing. VAST improvement yesterday using a manuka honey mask but not sure how regularly I should do that. Thank you for the youtube reference, shall get onto that tonight …..looks like no mince pies this Christmas!

Thanks Amit, Ive been taking probiotics for about six weeks now …possible the only symptom I haven’t had is any stomach issues so I am hoping that side of things is OK, shall continue the search. Exercise tonight in very humid Singapore may be the key! Thanks for the advice!

Hey , my name is Julianna and I’m 19 years old. Today , I went on a walk with my dog and once again I broke out in hives and my face swelled up. I also have a hard time breathing. the last time this happened , which was 3 weeks ago, my tongue swelled as well and the hives were everywhere( neck , face, chest , thighs , stomach, back). Everyone outside was looking at me like I was some crazy person, of course I got frustrated and was crying while I waited for my dad. I don’t know what it is that is wrong with me. This does not only happen when I work out , it happens when I dance and when I was playing in one of my basketball games. I’m so frustrated with this because it stops me from working out , I just want to be normal and have the ability to work out with out breaking out in hives and swelling and not being able to breath.

Juliana, Im so sorry I can’t give you an answer because I haven’t found one yet BUT would definitely suggest you buy the book and read through ….see how many “thats me!!!” moments you have and try to follow a similar path for a solution! Be strong! Research! Sending positive vibes!

Hi, please see my October 24th post on this forum. I was cured of CU by adopting a whole-food, plant-based (“vegan”) diet. Modern science is beginning to understand the mechanism as to why this works. CU is an autoimmune disorder. Eating a diet high in fiber serves to regulate the immune system, preventing it from overreacting. This solution is easy, it is inexpensive, and it works. Give it a try.
