Help for chronic hives?

April 17, 2017 by Forum Member

Hello,

I’ve had chronic hives every day for the past 4 months. I’ve been admitted to hospital once and had 5 courses of the horrible prednisone.
I’ve seen an allergist who has me on a daily regimen of Allegra, Zyrtec, Atarax, Singulair, Doxepin and Pepcid. Despite this I have massive hives all over my legs, arms and part of my torso. Worse of all it now on my face.

I’ve had 25 blood tests, including the full auto immune screening, CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel. You name it – we’ve tested for it.
I’m the president of a company and also work in a sales facing role.

This awful affliction is making it impossible for me to do my job. None of the antihistamines work. The pred works but I’m terrified of taking more of it. I’ve had a shot of Xolair and the hives were back in 3 days. I’m taking vitamin d a vitamin b stress complex.

I feel like I’ve exhausted all avenues. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I’m so sick of this. I used to be so active – marathon runner and international traveler for work. Now I’m mostly stuck in my house.

Thanks,

Sarah

    Hi sarah,
I’ve read and your story and picked up on that you were a marathon runner, I was also very active but an injury stopped me from training which is when it started for me, once I started sweating again i slowly got better. Maybe this might help you too if you try training again?

Read the book offered on this site. If you have not altered your diet, do so. Try no sugar, no caffeine, go vegetarian, try vegan, etc. There are all kinds of possibilities for help if you are willing to alter your diet. Also try making yourself sweat. But as bad off as you are, make sure someone is around and that you have an epi pin in case of a bad reaction. Diet changes and sweating seem to be what give people the most relief.

For my son, it was giving up sugar, caffeine, the sweeter fruits, and he is vegetarian. It’s a clean way to eat, and very good for you, even if you didn’t have hives. He looks the best and feels the best he’s ever felt.

Hang in there, and don’t give up. I will tell you, the drugs seems to work for very few people. It was my son’s chiropractor that got him moving in a helpful direction.

My husband had Hives. Found out that the cause is water. I had read one blog from this website and someone said the same thing. It’s because of water. Now I have to boil water and filter through BRITA to make shower water for my husband. He has hive on his face only. So I only need to make 1 liter a day. His Hives gone !!.. I read this below blog and got idea…But until we install any device to water pipe, we decided to boil water and Hives gone.

My husband and I both do not like to take medicines for long term which eventually will kill organs. Try to find natural solution..

My husband had Hives 6 months ago but we even had no clue of the cause. Then I found the above blog from this website. And I asked local people about water if anyone had problem with water and skin problem. Surprisingly landlord suggested me to try to boil and filter water if it works. Then his Hives gone !! It just 2 weeks ago, we found this solution. Yes I was thinking about water test. But by doing water test, I am not sure if I can find any professional answer. Currently we are living in Caribbean island has high ph level, high limescale ( calcium), high ions, which we all know who out water test. Last year country has major water supply problem. ..
Our next step is whether we shall install water softner or Osmosis filter system. I have to ask people which one will actually work for Hives. Installation is expensive so I need to find right one. Are you living in country where high ph level, high level of lime scale and ions ? Anyway you got to try all suggestions.. never know if it will works..

I have been suffering from hives since 16 years. It comes and goes from time to time. When it is very intense, then Allegra 180 daily dose clears it in few weeks. Right now I have discovered that sun bath
for an hour or so per week on naked body helps a lot. I do not use any kind of soap, perfume, or deodorant.
I have shower filter installed in my bathroom. Another thing which I do is that I apply pure olive oil all over my wet body immediately after shower and very gently use towel to dry the water. I hope this all can help somebody going through this miserable condition.
I found going to dermatologists of little use.
