I have the opposite reaction when I break out in hives?

April 15, 2016 by Forum Member

Hi…I have been breaking out in hives since I was in the third grade. I am now almost 48 years old. I have the exact opposite trigger for my hives.

It seems like when I go from warm environment into a much cooler or cold environment I break out in hives. My hives only appear on skin that is uncovered when I step into a cooler environment. Once I warm back up or take a hot bath, my hives usually disappear.

I was wondering if anyone else has this reaction? I went to an allergy doctor who prescribed Atarax for breakouts.

Thanks,

Teri

Hello, Teri. It sounds like you may have cold urticaria. You may want to research that online. Thanks for your post!

My sister’s eldest son has what you have. Whenever he would go swimming in a cold pool or move into a colder environment, he would break out in hives. He takes 2 Zyrtec tablets every day and the symptoms do not bother him anymore. Hope yours gets under control, too!
