Mild case of Cholinergic Urticaria?

June 18, 2018 by Forum Member

Hi guys,

Just wondering what are everyone’s experiences with being diagnosed. Do you think there’s any point in seeing a doctor over a potential mild case?

So obviously I haven’t been diagnosed, but I’ve stumbled across this condition on the internet and think there’s a possibility I may have it. I don’t want to fall into the trap of self-diagnosing. But just want some thoughts. It would explain a lot that I’ve just put down as having pale sensitive skin.

After exercise and showering, 95% of the time a red blotch appears on my cheek. This always appears in the same spot. I wish I could include a photo, But this is the main bothering aspect that I get after exercise because it’s on my face.

I have a number of times had red spots appear on my legs. But not as often as the face blotch. They almost look like mosquito bites. I actually showed these to a doctor because I happened to be getting a pre-travel check and just off-handedly asked, thinking it may be a grass allergy (I did an outdoor boot camp the day before). She said that because I was wearing thin pants, they may just be mosquito bites. But I had no marks on my arms that were uncovered. And they didn’t look like bites to me. The marks lasted a few days.

I’ve had small patches of hives appear on my legs on 2 occasions earlier this year. These lasted a few days also.

My legs often become red and blotchy after showering, and they are almost always itchy. The redness disappears quite quickly though.

Also wondering if anybody has any experience with asthma type symptoms being related? I get exercise-induced asthma. But not all the time. I may have periods in a lacrosse game where I struggle to breathe, and I cough for a few hours after games. Less strenuous exercise like netball I don’t cough at all though.

Thoughts?

-Lauren

Hello, Lauren. I’d recommend seeing a doctor if:

-You’d like to get a definite diagnosis.
-You’d like to explore treatment options such as antihistamines, sweat therapy, dietary changes, and so forth.
-You’d like to rule out other potential problems.
-You’d like to test for potential allergies.

The fact that you have the asthma issue makes me think that you have an allergy/intolerance to something in your diet or environment, which is causing your body to react.
