I have found lots of information about new leather couches causing hives. I have an IKEA leather couch that is about ten years old and just recently I have developed hives when I sit on it. Any ideas as to why an older couch would cause a problem?
Thank you!

Hey, Christian.
Sorry to hear about your hives. Perhaps you have some contact or pressure type of hives. Does this happen when you sit on anything else, or just the leather couch?
Could also be a reaction to the leather or some chemical sprayed on the leather.

I don’t have this issue with anything except this couch. This has only become an issue in the last six months. I haven’t had an issue before with this couch.
Thank you

I also have a leather ikea couch, all I can come up with is that leather and skin touching can make you more sweaty, less breathable. Maybe there is something in the couch that your skin is irritated with that was rubbed on the couch. That’s a tough one. I’ll pay closer attention and see if I get a similar reaction and get back with info.
