I mentioned to some friends about my preauricular ear pit. One of these friends told me that it should be removed, because it is dangerous because the water can come in through it. Is it true that it can be dangerous?
So I searched for it, and I red the article about the preauricular ear pit. I have two and my nephew also has it. I remembered when he was 7 years old, probably. His ear pit produced a stinky smell.
I am wondering now whether is that normal or another sign of infection? Also about my nephew, is there a connection to his ear pit and to his tongue tie problem?
Thank you in advance.

I’ve never had my ear pit removed, and I don’t plan on doing so (unless it develops recurrent infections). My understanding is that you shouldn’t have it removed unless it is causing problems with drainage or recurrent infections. If you are concerned about it, you can always consult with a doctor. I don’t know of any connection between ear pits and tongue tie problems. Thanks for your question!
