Recently diagnosed with hives

April 5, 2017 by Forum Member

Something is causing me to go bright red, shake and feel very sick. The flushing is bright red cover my face and torso looks like sunburn in appearance.

When it occurs I feel very hot and sick, and it lasts for few hours attacks becoming very frequent. My doctor says it’s hives, but it does not itch, does not look like rash, and I do not have any spots welts or bumps or bites.

Is this still hives?

Thanks,

If you doubt your diagnosis, you can always get a second opinion from an allergist or dermatologist. Hives can manifest in different ways, and not everyone has the itching or bumps.

No dermatologist or doctor that I’ve seen has been able to help me. Not one of them had even ever seen it. I am 64 and suddenly developed this last summer. I’ve found several forums where there are hundreds of people who are experiencing this. I get this red, under the skin, rash when my body temperature goes up. Outside or Inside. But, I can take a really hot shower and it doesn’t affect me. I do not have raised rash and it doesn’t itch, mine stings. goes away as soon as I cool myself down. I was pretty much not able to do anything outside last summer. I think it is a reaction to some preservative in something I am eating. Maybe a weird reaction to gluten. So far, I have not been able to pin point the cause nor have I figured out how to treat it. Zurtex and those type of allergy drugs do nothing to prevent it.

I feel the same way, I’ve been battling this for months (9 to be exact) and its flushing, bad flushing and the docs keep trying to feed me antihistamines and the Zyrtec makes it worse then I have a hard time coming off the antihistamines…life sucks right now. I can’t work out, as soon as I get heated up, the cool down period hurts (burns, stings, tingly, prickly)

Please try modifying your diet. If you haven’t ordered the book recommended on this website, do so. It is very insightful. My son’s chiropractor is the one who helped him the most. He suggested my son go off of sugar, which helped immensely. Then he suggested leaving off caffeine, which helped even more. I would suggest an elimination diet to try and pinpoint what may be triggering your outbreaks. But read the book!!

I changed my bath soap to Dove sensitive skin and use All/Clear for laundry. Two weeks ago, I started the Paleo diet and have noticed significant improvement. My itching has almost completely cleared…only minor itching once-in-a-while. I also take Allegra (one twice daily)…that’s the most effective antihistamine for me. And it’s cheap at Costco. As far as the Paleo diet goes, it’s pretty restrictive. Thus, I’m not “hardcore” with it. I try to follow it about 80% of the time.
