Stinging Sensations with Cholinegic Urticaria! Please help!

February 24, 2016 by Forum Member

I just wondered if anyone can give me much needed advice to reduce the nonstop stinging sensations, which is like being stung with hundreds of stinging nettles.

I get tons of rashes and hives, which is not nice–but it’s the stinging sensations I’m getting that is overwhelming. I feel like I’m dying and much of the time wished it would happen to end this life of misery.

I keep having severe suicidal thoughts and frightened I may have no choice but act on this.

Please help me fight this dreadful disease before it’s too late. I have had this disease for 3-4 years along with severe nasal congestion which adds to the anxiety. I am so miserable!!

-Mike

Sorry to hear this Mike. I too have suffered quite badly over the past two years but not to your degree. Have you tried modifying your diet? I decided to cut back on dairy and really has helped immensely. I have more control over my cholinergic urticaria now and the stinging sensation isnt as bad as it once was. It may not work for you but its worth trying everything to not let this beat you!!! Also, antihistmines such as fexofenadine can keep reactions to a minimum. Fingers crossed you find a solution. Mike, there is a way out if you approach it mindfully and systematically. The stinging nettle some suggest may help. Of course ALL the steps in the book. Here is one that I have been doing and the stinging and hives stopped. Find a warm spot. Remove your clothes and moisten your skin in the head, torso, arms, chest, back etc. where stinging is worst. Apply a zinc pyridoxine dandruff shampoo liberally to the skin and sit quietly and meditate 15 minutes while it dries. Shower off in warm shower thoroughly. Maybe it is the change in the weather, but the last couple of weeks since I started this again the hives are gone. I am taking the nettle one capsule a day..sometimes…and zinc supplement and a probiotic, and a plant based diet with occasional sardines as an experiment. Try out the shampoo…it is easy. Good luck.

    Hi Mike,

I wrote before on this forum please see my original post:
    https://www.cholinergicurticaria.net/this-is-my-4th-battle-with-chronic-urticaria/

My hives are stress induced. Luckily I am able to make some changes in my life and that made a difference. I also follow the following medication and it seems to work. I am now clear of hives.
1 pill Xyzal (5 mg levocetirizine) with breakfast
1 capsule of Nature’s Way Nettle Leaf with breakfast. Find it on Amazon. Herbal totally safe.
1 pill Zantac 75 (ranitidine 75 mg) around 5 pm.
1 capsule of Nature’s Way Nettle Leaf with dinner
1 pill Xyzal (5 mg levocetirizine) before bed.

You got to get the brand-name Xyzal and not the generic. Generic will not work. This is prescription antihistamine and expensive but your allergist should be able to prescribe it for you.

It started working for me after trying it for a week.

Do not lose hope, stay positive and seek a psychiatrist if you still have severe suicidal thoughts.

It is important to reduce your emotional stress.

    Best of luck.

Have you tried large doses of Zyrtec and if that doesn’t work steroids? The Zyrtec I’m on 5 times a day which helps a bit – some people have great luck with it some don’t. Also there is prednisone – steroid – which the doctor can prescribe for short periods of time. I know what you mean about killing yourself. I too have thought if this for more constant I would contemplate suicide. But please realize it should go away eventually on its own and there are still some medications to try.

I will pray for you, Mike. My son 30 yr old son has C. U., and he is miserable at times as well. When it was at it’s worse this winter, he had a very difficult time. Do try modifying your diet – get rid of all the stuff that could aggravate (or cause) this. Try a very simple diet for a while. No sugar, no caffeine, no dairy, etc. There are still plenty of good things to eat. Hang in there, friend. I will pray for you everyday. Please keep us posted as to what you are trying and how it is going for you.

    Dear Mike,

I too have the the issue but not as severe as yours. Here are a few things that helped me,
    1. I changed my diet pattern by including more plant and fruit based diet.
    2. I started to practice light meditation and breathing exercises like yoga
    3. I am now using 100% chemical and soap free organic body wash and
    4. I use organic body moisturiser after each shower.

It has not completely eliminated the issue but the symptoms are much controlled.

Please try it. It could help you as well.

    Good Luck

I was just diagnosed after going insane, swearing it was bug bites. The stinging is making me crazy as well, like a pin poking me randomly and Mike, please do not ever contemplate suicide, that is not the answer….May I ask, does it feel like you have bugs crawling on you sometimes? Every allergy test came back fine … I’m am baffled by this and still feel this isn’t stress induced hives, although I have all of your symptoms ..
