Undiagnosed-Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream?

July 13, 2014 by Hivesguy

Thank you all for your information. For the first time in my 48 years finding similar stories on the internet makes me feel like I am not going crazy.

I have shared these symptoms with many people throughout my life and nobody could relate. My situation appears to be somewhat of a mystery still. It started when I was a small child. It seemed to occur mostly in the winter, I was given Benadryl and it was assumed to be winter dry skin, soaps, and normal skin sensitivities. It continued throughout my teens, twenties, always randomly, and then again when I moved to a new city for college.

A doctor then said I probably need to get used to the new water. My severe itching always occurs getting out of the shower. I was a professional dancer so perspiring never seemed to be a trigger, working out, or sun never seemed to be the cause. It began to minimize with age, and at 34 got diagnosed with Graves disease. Six years later, I became gluten free, dairy free, except for a morning yogurt which does not bother my stomach.

I have not had a severe reaction for some time until just the other day, I got out of the shower, the same shower I have been in for one year now, and boom!–an attack just like the good ole days. It was horrible.

My husband said “honey did you try the mystery cure cream?” No, I did not even think of it. His father gave him a cream for a mystery rash he once had. I applied it and immediately it was like my whole body went into immediate calm. It is called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream usp 0.1% I still do not understand this after all these years. I do not know what else to cut from my diet, as I have done food allergy tests, and topical allergen tests. I know my body is “changing again”, maybe it is hormones. I am just so glad to hear I am not alone. I hope this cream helps others.

Sincerely,

Michele

    Hello, Michele.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Welcome to the forum! I’m sorry to hear of your past struggles with this, ad I’m glad you know that you aren’t alone. I’m also glad that this cream does appear to be helping you.

It looks like it is a corticosteroid cream, and corticosteroids can help reduce inflammation in the skin. I would caution readers that this is a prescription-based cream, so they should only use under a doctor’s care. I used a corticosteroid cream many years back to help with itch bumps on my elbow, and it did clear that up fast. They can tend to thin the skin, however, so they aren’t for long-term use.

Thanks again so much for sharing that experience!
