Updated diet for cholinergic urticaria

July 22, 2014 by Hivesguy

Hello Hivesguy,

I came across your blog and found that I have symptoms similar to what you had. I am a 27 yr old woman, and I had been diagnosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria 4 yrs back. I was initially on antihistamines but when I stopped taking antihistamines the hives came back. Then I tried homeopathic treatment. But I dont see any marked improvement.

Currently this is my routine:

1) Echinacea angustifolia ( one tab twice a day)
2) Quercetin +vit C 500 mg (twice a day)
3) Bromelain 1000 mg (twice a day)
4) Neem tablets (One per day)
5) Xyzal whenever itching sensation (Usually 5 mg per week)

Please help me with an updated diet. I recently got married and we have been trying to conceive. I dont want my antihistamines to have an effect on my future baby. So I wanted to try your diet.

Regards,
Akira (Japan)

    Hello, Akira.

Currently my diet consists of turkey (the real stuff), white rice with maple syrup, sweet potatoes, broccoli, bananas, strawberries, and blueberries. I do eat a few things outside of that range on occasion, but that summarizes my “safe” diet that will keep my hives gone (as well as random skin issues and digestive issues). Note that I don’t use condiments or other things–I eat the food just as I typed above (the veggies are cooked, of course).

I haven’t had dairy in a long time, simply because it does send my hives and other symptoms through the roof. I used to love to eat dairy though. A lot of people develop lactose intolerance as they age.

You are very right about antihistamines–many do warn to not take them while pregnant or nursing. Good job on looking out for the safety of your future child–I have a feeling you’ll make a wonderful mother.

I don’t know if the diet will help you (I also have some articles on allergy elimination diets on this site if you search), but I surely hope it does help you.

May God bless you and your husband with a health and happy baby, and I hope your hives improve soon.
