I started having heat hives around 4 years ago. That time I only get itchy around my head when I eat spicy or hot food. But after freshman year in college, I would be itchy when I get hot and developed hives around my body.
Now I can’t even walk outside during day time, and it’s not even July yet. I suspect that the college food made my symptoms worst, and I’m trying to eat healthy again. If food is not my problem, will my hive keep getting worst?
And since this is my first summer dealing with this problem, any suggestions on how to deal with the heat? I have been at home for a while now, and I’m a bit scared of going outside, which is definitely a problem. My dermatologist prescribed me fexofenadine which does not help much.
Thanks,
Lona

My son is a sophomore in college and started having this type of heat hives around last Christmas. He tried Fexofenadine (Allegra) first, but it did not help. He switched to 2 cetirizine hydrochloride (Zyrtec) every morning and it helps a lot better. Doctor prescribed 10 mg. hydroxyzine at night and that helps him not break out at night. My son saw an allergist who new exactly what he had and suggested antihistamines. Others combat it with change of diet, inducing themselves to sweat, etc. This is a wonderful site to learn more and try different things that might help you. Don’t give up! I pray you get better! There is lots of support here at this website. The book “Cholinergic Urticaria” was also very enlightening and I recommend you order it.
