Worst Hives Breakout You’ve Ever Had?
Post by: zkpd on December 01, 2010, 09:30:34 PM
For me, it’d have to be my high school graduation… In the waiting room, I had already been breaking out for a while. Then when we went on stage, half my grade was sitting next to me, other half was sitting in the audience. Then, all their parents were sitting in the audience too. I never told anyone about my hives, so I just couldn’t scratch.
So for the next 2 hours, I just sat there, not being able to relieve myself, watching the last names go through the entire alphabet, trying not to go insane from the situation. After I went home, I just passed out through the entire day. It was definitely one of the worst times of my life.

Well, there are 2 ways to define “worst.” Worst as in the most painful, and worst as in most embarrasing/frustrating.
The most painful was this summer, when I had an attack for about 10 minutes straight and it wouldn’t go away. It was so painful I almost cried. The worse in the sense of “embarrasing/frustrating” would have to be during an “intimate moment” with my wife. That wasn’t fun at all.

Title: Going from cold outside to heated inside without hives?

Hey guys! Tonight I got hives really really bad, almost the worst I’ve ever had and all i did was go from the wintery outside into a heated building. It is really depressing because tomorrow would have been my one week mark without hives :-[ I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to prevent this? I am a college student so sometimes I can’t get my coat off fast enough. I can’t control the heat settings, and once my body has adjusted to the room I get cold. I was thinking about bringing layers but it is kind of a pain. Any ideas would be very helpful! Thanks!

Yeah, I hate when that happens. It can be really frustrating and depressing. The only tips I can give are:
1. Try to get to the class early if possible. That way, you can enter the building somewhere and “adjust” (maybe in a bathroom), and then once you adjust maybe you will be okay.
2. Try to dress as warmly as possible, but wear stuff that is really easy to take off. It isn’t always easy or practical, but can help. Plus, I always wear like a t-shirt (even in the dead winter) under my coat, so I know I can get cool if needed as long as I take off the layers.
3. Try to take as many online courses as you can. A lot of schools are offering a bigger selection of online classes. I always tried to take those.
4. You could always try to have an attack at home (or in the car) before you go. This obviously has its risks and may not be safe for everyone. But sometimes I would blast the heat and wear my coat in the car until I was hot and itchy. Then, I would walk to class and sometimes I would be okay.
That’s about all I can come up with from the top of my head. I know it isn’t fun having a hives attack in school. I can still recall all those times it would be ice cold, and I would have to walk like 1/2 a mile to get to my class. Then, the building would be hot as can be, and I would have to go up 3 flights of stairs. Needless to say, it was torture.

I experience having hives every Tuesday and Thursday morning at school. Hmmm…I guess that means in a couple of hours for me. ::)
Despite my condition, I still enrolled in a hip-hop class. I love dancing…well, maybe not as much as I used to. Every time I go to class we dance around doing MJ choreography. Seriously! My teacher was one of his dancers. It’s fun, but sometimes when I sweat. YES, I DO SWEAT…it hurts like pin pricks but itchy. And red! I’m always checking in the mirror to see if I turned red or not. I do not sweat nearly as much as I used to though! I used to sweat quite a lot when exercising. Not anymore.
Anyways…what I do is I wear a long sleeve shirt to class or a jacket over my t-shirt. I do this and although it annoys the heck out of me, I do it so no one see’s my hives. Sometimes it’s really bad when they have the heater on and the choreography is super intricate. A few times I almost wanted to cry because it hurt to move.
My teacher thinks I’m weird. 🙁 I explained my situation to him, but I don’t think he quite understands. :'( He see’s that I’m out going but then again very very shy. Once he announced to the class that I was “Hiding” and I was but it was because I looked like I had the chicken pox going on! He told the class that the way I acted in class, “looked as though I am gonna hit you.” Everyone looked at me and I felt so bad. Eh…
Recently it hasn’t been so bad. In fact, my last class didn’t produce hives at all! 🙂 Maybe I’m getting over them? Who knows? By the way…if I figure out how to do so…I promise! PROMISE!!! I will tell you how to do it as well.
Okay now back to bed….Good night everyone! 🙂

Title: Do you guys get these symptoms during or after an attack?

So I just recently had a bad attack.
The weird thing I’ve always noticed is that sometimes during or after a really bad attack I get EXTREMELY depressive. I don’t mean “Oh why do I have this disease?” depressive, I mean more like irrationally I feel my brain just snapped and broke and now my whole existence and stability is on the verge of breaking down. It’s hard to explain, and there’s no REASON I should feel this way. I’m not normally like this.
And it’s not just depressive feelings either. When I get this way I feel EXTREMELY aggressive at the same time. My muscles twitch and have this tension in such a way that I feel I need to jerk around, like a spastic or autistic. I also end up very cold and shivering.
I’ve never heard anyone complain about symptoms such as these and it makes me wonder if you guys hide it or if there is a difference here. The nature of these symptoms makes me wonder if this is a sort of serotonin syndrome caused by the mast cells releasing its stored serotonin along with histamine. I also get all the other usual symptoms like hives, redness, hypotension, nausea.
So does anyone else get this too?

Yeah, I get a lot of that.
Basically, I get highly irritable, annoyed, and depressed (feeling the “why me,” and “life sucks” type thoughts very strongly). I also feel sorta dizzy after a bad one, and tired as well.
But it usually passes after a few minutes. I accept my fate, take a second to collect myself, and I am as good as new.

the worst is when your in a temperate where it’s not warm enough to break a sweat so you just have a lingering burning sensation all over until you cool down-eg 2 hr bus drive on a warm day
